What you said all pertains to Platonism. But, there are other schools of philosophy than Platonism. Aristotle wrote a 1000-page dissertation about the Soul. In it, he clearly separates soul and spirit and gives them distinct meanings. His definitions are far more in line with Paul than Plato.
