Because it was. It may apply to the entire world, but it WAS "addressed" to a specific group. Just as all the other specifically addressed books of the Bible may hold lots of things for all people in every generation, they were each written TO certain addressees.

I wonder who John was referring to in C-1, V-9, when he said he was their brother and companion in tribulation? (and, BTW, C-7, V-13 doesn't say anything about "THE" Great Tribulation.) And we have definitely made the mention of troubling times into an event we call "THE" Great Tribulation...
