In the case of the quotes about the parents who do it (and so many do, now, when the younger generation reach the first tattoo stage), it is more probably in order to have a sense of family/parental sharing.

Yes, John 6 and Ephesians 2 seem to confirm that faith is indeed a work of God. As does Philippians 1.6.

It's good to be sure of exercising saving faith in the Lord Jesus, as the Scripture teach. John 3.16 is similar in its themes to various verses in John's First Epistle about eternal life in Him.

PS: My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed. It was her favorite Bible verse and mine also; and I'm sure other conversations have arisen as a result of her willingness to do it. She did it on her wrist area.

@Rita Well, yes, you're right. I guess part of it is that for them it can seem really appropriate if they think that having it done will make them feel a bit more grown up; like you said, doing it at about the age that you mentioned. (Works similarly, for the young men, really.) At about that...
