    Calvinism is a Cult

I know what you mean; there needs to be individual obedience, indeed. I was referring really to the general principle of indwelling, which pertains to the church from Pentecost.

    Calvinism is a Cult

The need for the Holy Spirit to guide the Lord's people into all truth is a plain fact of Scripture (John 16.13).

    Calvinism is a Cult

It seems that Pentecost was pivotal as regards the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

Interesting about that detail from your husband's family background. Frankly I think it can be perfectly wholesome for men, young and older, to have their ears pierced and since it's a widespread style it would probably seem sensible for parents to allow it as readily for sons as they tend to do...

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

Maybe his parents were surprised, too...

Scholasticism tends to the reading into Scripture of man-approved ideas.

I do love that chapter of Hebrews.

    Calvinism is a Cult

Although Romans does indeed speak of 'the obedience of faith' and 'obedience to the faith' at the end and at the beginning of the Epistle, it is indeed true that salvation is 'not of works, lest any man should boast' (Ephesians 2.9).

    Calvinism is a Cult

Hebrews 11 has excellent examples of faith. 'By faith...' etc.

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

I'm sure you enjoy being in a minority and doing your own thing! Of course, Scripture has many examples of ear piercing/earrings for both genders!

    Calvinism is a Cult

Scripture is many-faceted revelation, for the understanding of which we need the Holy Spirit.

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

@Lady Crosstalk PS: As regards the matter of reasons for wearing earrings, which you raised, would you be prepared then to say what your own reason might be? (If you'd rather we didn't know, fine!) Blessings.

    The Issue of Calvinism.

I agree that interpretation and context are so important. Although I don't myself have a problem with Calvinism as a body of Scripture doctrine.

    Physician Assisted Suicide

We do need to have our thinking informed by Scripture, indeed, yes.

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

@Butterfly FYI: It strikes me that ear piercing for men is in some ways comparable to tattoos for women: just as ear piercing years ago was overwhelmingly associated with women but now many men have it done with relish, so also just as tattoos were formerly overwhelmingly associated with men...

    Physician Assisted Suicide

They are not even questions that secularist ethics committees will likely address adequately in any case...

Terrorist Attack in NZ...49 dead...so far.

I think your header verse from Proverbs 3.5-6 sums it up, really.

    Calvinism is a Cult

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1.5)

Ear piercing: for sons as well as for daughters: is it appropriate? (plus poll)

Interesting question! :) As far as I can see, it's not necessary to project any of those assumptions onto why they do... Thanks for your response.

    Who appreciates Philippians? :)

    @Cherie Faye Mora FYI, thread...
