    It seems that the rapture of the church in 1 Thess. 4 is a secret matter, whereas His appearing in power and glory - corresponding with the Old Testament phrase 'day of the Lord' is a public manifestation.

    There is both Divine sovereignty and human responsibility in John 6.37: "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."

    I just don't like to use the phrase 'free will' because it can be made to mean all sorts of things that I might not think Scriptural; this is why I much prefer the term 'human responsibility'. I think I see where @Dave L is coming from, although he can speak for himself.

    I like the term 'human responsibility'. This is in harmony with God's sovereignty in Scripture.

    The point is that true believers are reckoned righteous - justified - in the sight of God (Romans 5.1) and eternally secure (Romans 8.38-39); the obedience of faith - obedience to the faith - is a characteristic of the truly justified.

    Hi; we need to keep looking unto Jesus (Hebrews 12.2) and maybe the rapture will happen before troubled times deteriorate even further (the Great Tribulation of Matthew 24 does not seem to involve the church).
