γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

Is there an alternate recognized source that disputes Thayer's definition?

γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

Yes, I believe that verses 30-31 refer to the literal second coming. Attempting to reconcile with verse 34.

γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

I believe that verse 29 can be interpreted as shown in the examples below. I'm still attempting to reconcile verses 30-31. The destruction of Babylon. Apocalyptic hyperbole. Not the Second Coming. Isaiah 13 1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. 10 For...

γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

If you interpret "generation" to refer to the Jewish race, then what is the applicable duration? Is it until Christ returns? It cannot be until Christ returns, because today the Abrahamic genome is ubiquitous within the human race, and thus "generation" encompasses the entire human race...

γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

I concur, and I've always subscribed to Thayer's definition i.e. "the whole multitude of men living at the same time: Matthew 24:34;" Until I see otherwise, I'll remain confident that Thayer's Greek scholarship exceeds any of ours. sml

γενεά geneá and the fallacy of illegitimate totality transfer

It is not implausible to recognize that the definition of "generation" in Matthew 24:34 incorporates the elements of both race and time. Ethnic Jews (the race element) living when Jesus prophesied, were destroyed within a generation (the time element) in 70 AD. There's room for both.

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Why are you citing the JFB commentary? It is preceded, by more than a century, by the much more widely recognized and acclaimed Matthew Henry commentary. Matthew Henry on 2 Thessalonians 2:4: "As God, he sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. As God was in the temple of...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

I explained why Irenaeus said what he did, but unsurprisingly you don't understand it. If Irenaeus had lived at the time of the Reformation, he would have understood 2 Thessalonians 2 in the same way as every other Reformer. So to reiterate, Just leave what you don't understand for those who...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Thanks for the guffaws. Yes, history is suppositional to a Darby/Scofield/Jesuit dispensational futurist. Sozomen's account is of a non-Darby/Scofield/Jesuit verifiable historical event which was consistent with God's judgment and punishment upon blasphemous apostates. You have...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Just leave what you don't understand for those who do.

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

It proves that God will not countenance a third physical temple.

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Obviously you flunked kindergarten English. Sozomen was a Christian historian. Irenaeus didn't see this. It appeared centuries after him. “All the names which in the Scripture are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is established that He is over the church, all the same...

A future third temple requires a new prophet

Debunked. Where is Paul's nonexistent "naos" stoner temple?

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Here's what happened the last time the Jews tried it. Stock up on popcorn. Next time will be quite a show. Sozomen (ca. A.D.375-447) "Ecclesiastical History" Book V, Chapter XXII Though the emperor [Julian the Apostate] hated and oppressed the Christians, he manifested benevolence and...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Complete balderdash. Matthew 24:24 Greek 5580 [e] pseudochristoi ψευδόχριστοι false Christs N-NMP The word is plural in both the Greek ("N-NMP" where "P" denotes plural) and the English ("false Christs"). Strong doesn't contradict himself. His Greek and English are immeasurably...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

The papacy is overjoyed to have papists defend it. Its Jesuits also originated the futurism to which deluded dispensationalists subscribe. What a wonderful heritage to be a part of.

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Whom to believe? 1. You 2. The Reformation's Reformers, whom God raised up to liberate His True Church from the spiritual darkness and oppression of the man of sin. Need a hint?

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

No amount of hallucinating about a physical temple can disprove Paul's inerrant description of the spiritual temple of the Church. You lose.

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

No one except your imagination claims that. Here's what is claimed: “All the names which in the Scripture are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is established that He is over the church, all the same names are applied to the Pope.” Robert Cardinal Bellarmine, De Conciliorum Auctoriatate...

    Apostle Paul's Temple of God

Since Scripture interprets Scripture, you need to find at least one instance outside of 2 Thessalonians 2 where Paul uses "naos" to refer to a physical temple. What instance is that?
