Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

I love dinosaurs. They're one of my passions. I was really into Cryptozoology as a kid, too. If you enjoy Paleontology, then why do you dismiss evolution? I was shocked at the time. Their reasoning was something like, if it wasn't mentioned in Genesis, then it wasn't there. When I asked them...

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

On the origin of life, perhaps. But the fossil record contradicts the idea that there was only ever modern humans. You'd probably be surprised at the number of Christians I've spoken to over the years that genuinely believe the dinosaurs never existed, despite the overwhelming evidence to the...

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

Well, Homo erectus went extinct. We didn't evolve from them. They were just another line of ancient ancestors that existed before us. We lived alongside Neanderthals, another humanoid species that eventually went extinct. Modern humans have been around for roughly 300,000 years. If I read...

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

There are many, but Homo erectus is probably one of the better known human ancestors that is now extinct.

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

Correct. It would be another primate. We don't know where it came from. Science currently can't say where life originated from, nor why. That's why evolution is not in conflict with the idea of God being a prime mover. It's entirely possible that God was responsible for everything.

A common ancestor. We didn't evolve from monkeys though. That's a common misconception. "Humans and monkeys are both primates. But humans are not descended from monkeys or any other primate living today. We do share a common ape ancestor with chimpanzees. It lived between 8 and 6 million years...

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

Because I think the evidence is solid. I never said it did.

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

The bible is full of claims. But claims are not proof of anything. I'm not sure what you're asking.

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

I'm curious, why don't you apply the same level of skepticism you have for evolution to the stories you read about in the bible?

    Ozzy Osbourne passed away today

Christians go to war with each other over this stuff. As an outside observer, I often feel like they're more friendly to me than to each other. :confused

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

The origin of life, much like the origin of the universe, is still a mystery. But the evidence for evolution exists and that's why people believe it. Yes, there is plenty of evidence. Modern medicine is founded on evolution, and the fossil record speaks for itself. That's more than we have for...

They were popular. Not as popular as Sabbath, but few bands reach that level.

    Ozzy Osbourne passed away today

Did they make a deal with the devil to achieve their level of popularity?

    Ozzy Osbourne passed away today

I recall Creed, a Christian band, being very popular in the 90's and early 2000's.

Does God know why he exists?

In an attempt to understand the character of God, I sometimes wonder whether or not he knows why he exists. Perhaps the act of creation itself is an attempt to understand the nature of it's own existence. The creation of the cosmos. Abnormalities. Things that he hadn't considered could...

    Ozzy Osbourne passed away today

    I did ask a question. Post #145.

    Ozzy Osbourne passed away today

What about Hulk Hogan? I haven't seen many Christians questioning whether or not he made it to heaven. He made a lot of mistakes in life. Some of them ruined his legacy for many people. Anyways, Tony Schiavone had a special tribute to hulk on AEW...
