There is a difference between pardoning sins and atoning them. Perhaps, while some can have their pardoned by God, only the someone can atone for them. Forgiveness, pardon, and atonement are different.

There seems itself incriminating activities and circumstances. I doubt anyone can poorly copy a manuscript during the medieval period and before without being extremely sloppy. It seems the errant codices have any agenda aswell. Errant manuscripts either get corrected or thrown away.
