The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

I am so sorry Lizbeth but I haven't kept up with NT Translations, I use the Greek NT (CT). I use the NET Bible for the OT. Below is a link to Dan Wallace's information on various Translations. I use to work for Dan and he is a great resource for information...

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

Hi Lizbeth, Glad you enjoyed the post! Yes. There are many good Translations out there. The doctrines of the Christian Faith are well preserved in many Translations. I use the NET Bible sometimes. I am not exactly sure what you are referring to when you talk about a Translation being more of a...

For KJV folks, a heads up

That's exactly what happen, but the skeptic will argue that the KJV translators "added to the Word" without a single manuscript agreeing with that addition. They have by-passed the evidence in the manuscripts and added words that do not appear in any manuscript. Can they do that with other verses?

For KJV folks, a heads up

Here is the translation of 2 Sam 21.19 in your KJV: "{And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam." Notice the words "the brother of"...

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

Hi Jay, Let me ask you a clarifying question for my own good. When you suggest that the NT manuscripts are not full of mistakes, how does that relate to the 400,000 to 500,000 variants among all the Greek manuscripts?

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

IndianaRob said: "No I mean right or true period. Where do you get the idea that God can’t inspire a translator to translate his word correctly?" Perhaps someone here would be willing to define "inspire." Since there are mistakes in the Greek manuscripts, including the TR, what exactly do you...

    How do you block someone?

    Could Jesus have sinned?

lforrest wrote: "If Jesus sinned it would have been an admission that God can't live up to his own standards..." That is exactly right.

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

I should probably clarify a point here. Textual Criticism is when you take two Greek manuscripts and compare them. That's an oversimplification but the gist is right. When you try to reconstruct the NT using Church Fathers you have to make some allowances. Church Fathers would often quote a...

    I abandoned my faith

I appreciate your asking this question for clarification. Yes I am a Christian. My point in the post was to say I abandoned a "leap in the dark" faith for an evidentiary faith, one based on the evidence. Before that, I didn't have enough information to know what KINDS of faith there were. I...

Have you ever seen an apostasy?

Paul is telling the Thessalonians/believers that they are not in the Day of the Lord because the APOSTASIA comes first AND you haven't experienced THIS APOSTASIA as of now. But, have you experienced THE apostasy in your life? Whatever the APOSTASIA is, it must be something observable, otherwise...

    I abandoned my faith

Yes, verse 38 could have been added to show that Jesus also said "... if you don't believe me, at least believe the works of my Father." The whole point I am making is that Jesus is the only religious founder who could say, "If I do not do the works of my Father, do not put your faith in me."...

    Could Jesus have sinned?

The whole purpose of writing this was to demonstrate that Jesus could not have sinned. That is a worthy event.

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

I use the NET Bible sometimes in my research. This is the Bible put out by professors of Dallas Theological Seminary.

    Could Jesus have sinned?

St. SteVen wrote: "Beyond that, what would the effect have been if Jesus had yielded to temptation? Would humankind still have been redeemable?" That's exactly what I address in my initial post of this subject. I contend that Jesus could not have sinned because there would be no possible...

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

SteVen, I didn't work with Translation, only Greek Manuscripts. Textual Critics don't work with Translations.

The NT manuscripts are full of mistakes

Pearl, I use to work as a textual critic. I would track variants within manuscripts. You need a base text and then you compare a manuscript to the base text and record all variants, that is, any place where the manuscripts differ. Doing this is basically how we know there are over 400,000...

    I abandoned my faith

I have never "listed" myself as a Christian, but I am. However, your question tells me you either didn't read my post or understand it.

The word Rapture DOES APPEAR in the Bible

You said: "There are so many errors in KUWN's paper that it's not possible to address most of them in a single post. But if anyone's game, we can pull them out, one at a time, and take a closer look." I am game. Show me these errors.
