Is it biblical? - What does that even mean?

No. There's a bunch of doctrine... orthodox doctrine even... that comes from extra-Biblical sources. For instance... there's more of our doctrine that comes from the book of Enoch than there is that comes from.. say... the gospel of Luke.

How do you understand Isaiah 19/ 18:25

You have to look at the context and compare it to history. "Everything is literal" is a beginner's way of understanding... something we give to children.

    The Seven Days of Creation

Sure... but I didn't make reference to one of those. The story above is about a man who prayed for a son. It's the 'evening and morning' that makes it unclear, tbh. That sort of repetition is used as a poetic device in other literature of the same time period and language. I'm repeating...

How do you understand Isaiah 19/ 18:25

Agreed. Did small research and found that the 'City of Destruction' mentioned in verse 18 is most likely On-Heliopolis. There is a play on words there - Heliopolis is Greek meaning 'City of the Sun' and the phrase 'City of Destruction' is similar in Hebrew - just one letter different. Given...

    The Seven Days of Creation

I don't see why those quotes would prevent Genesis 1 from using a poetic device to express the passage of time. It seems that rather than address the argument I presented, you've decided to throw some unrelated verses at me.

How do you understand Isaiah 19/ 18:25

Interesting... My knowledge of history of the region can't identify a specific fulfillment, though in the New Testament era there was a significant population of Jews/Christians in Egypt, so that era suggests itself.

    The Seven Days of Creation

Genesis 1 enumerates 7 days for the creation. It painstakingly documents the shift from one day to the next with the repetitive phrase, "and there was evening, and there was morning, the Xth Day." I don't think those time frames are literal. Get out your torches and pitchforks. Just to be...

Is the first resurrection physical or spiritual?

Just... read the chapter honestly. The point of it is to witness the literal, physical death and resurrection of Jesus. Your idea requires that the author just decided to stop doing that for 2 or 3 verses right in mid-chapter... and suddenly shift to talking about a heavenly realm... without...

    Election in the Old Testament

Election is not the same thing as salvation, but they are related. The election itself is to BE the people of God, to act as a nation of priests. But salvation IS something that is promised to the elect. Virtually every OT prophet has some prophecy in which Israel (aka the elect) will be...

Is the first resurrection physical or spiritual?

Can do. Just read the verse that follows... Matthew 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Is the first resurrection physical or spiritual?

Why? I don't know why. But the fact of it happening is recorded right there in Matthew: Matthew 27 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks...

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

I think... this would make a terrible topic. It would devolve into a fight between the Calvinists and Arminians pretty quickly, thereby causing more of the problem that it criticizes.

Is the first resurrection physical or spiritual?

The first resurrection was the resurrection of the martyrs, and it was physical. That was the whole point - the ones who gave up their physical lives, received a new physical life - fair recompense.

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

Predestination... is a mountain that the church has made out of a molehill. Shall we examine the molehill? Paul mentions predestination 5 total times in 3 different chapters. Ephesians 1 contains two of those, and it's a doxology whose purpose is to give glory to God because He has carried...

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

The Bible even describes it as "death." In the prophets, Israel is said to be "dry bones" and the prophesy is for resurrection. And there's the whole 'let the dead bury their dead' thing.

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

Well, the Elect should be linked to salvation. That's part of God's promise to them: So all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, 'There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.'...

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

I think this might be the doctrine the Old Testament spends the most time developing... Israel is elect, special, chosen by God. Isa 45:4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. I don't think...

The "Yeah, but..." school of doctrine - Bible versus Bible

That's a pretty poor quality of conversation, but I've been there. I find that where there is polarized disagreement, there is often a flaw in the foundations upon which the argument is built. So nowadays, my first course is to go look at the logic that came before the argument. For...

    Filling in Scriptural Blanks

Anyone who thinks they have a solid grasp of Biblical Hebrew is overestimating their abilities. There's nobody alive who speaks that language or has ever known someone who did. ALL of it is put back together from literal scraps, using outside information and other people's translations. Well...
