Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Again, you are referring to a verse about an unsaved person before confessing their sin and coming to Christ. That is what we do not agree on. You and Carl believe 1 John 1:8 is about a Christian because of the word, "we." But 1 John 1:9 is the same as Acts 2:38. It is how to receive the Holy...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

That is true, it is possible, but Romans 6 says seeing as we are dead to sin, why would you want to? We can keep ourselves pure in order to go to heaven, 2 Peter 1:10-11, 1 John 3:1-3. Or do you actually believe the false doctrine that anyone other than the righteous or holy will be allowed in...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I believe you received the Holy Spirit, but I do not believe you have His one and only interpretation of that verse. The next verse tells you how to no longer be a sinner, sinning every instant. Romans 8:29-30 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

"we" is everyone going to John's church in Ephesus. Not all are saved. That goes for every church in the world, unfortunately. Paul said to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Why fear, if it is so easy?

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Curious Carl, What do you think 1 John 1:8 means without analyzing the context?

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

The point is not everyone going to church is saved. We are to test ourselves. The main test is verses 5-10, and also in chapter 2. 5. God is LIGHT 6. He who SAYS he has a relationship with God, but walks in DARKNESS... 7. He who WALKS in the LIGHT, sins forgiven 8. He who SAYS he doesn't sin 9...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I just showed you Rich. Did you not recognize the fruit of the Spirit in 2 Peter 1:5-7? Compare the steps in 5-7 with the list of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatian 5:22-23. The steps require maturing in those individual fruit of the Spirit. Verses 8 and 9 is Peter scolding anyone who does not...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

"We" all are human beings. John is preaching. Not to just Christians but to mankind. Don't forget how we come to faith, Romans 10:17 "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." He is writing to those with ears. But baby Christians, 1 John 2:1, who have come to Christ...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

There are two types of sins. A Christian is freed from the sins in the Ten Commandments. We cannot steal, we cannot murder or commit adultery. If those drives are still in us, then Jesus is not inside of us. The other type of sins have to do with immature fruit of the Spirit. 1 John 5:16-17...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

That was is a statement of MINE about those who believe 1 John 1:8 is to Christians, just because it uses "we." The key word in the verse is SAYS, not WALKS. Verse 7 IS a true Christian because they WALK IN THE LIGHT. It is the same as verse 6. They are still walking in darkness, not the light...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Now I see I've hurt YOUR feelings. I'm sorry. All I wanted was for you two to stop fighting and reconcile.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

When feelings get hurt, there needs to be reconciliation and that comes through forgiveness. Read John 17 and see how Jesus want his Church to be one, totally united. We're not. So rethink your comment. Good night Rich.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Whatever it was about the devil and Jim B, you hurt his feelings, even if unintentionally. Matthew 6:14-15. But forgive each other.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Not everyone is taking the forums as a perfect opportunity to grow in the Spirit, and the fruit of the Spirit. Like self-control, brotherly kindness, and love. I'm nothing like the person I was when I first started posting on Christians sites. This is just one of many.

Yes, Rich deserves a spanking for that. You do know I included him, not just you.

@Jim B and @Rich R Hey brothers! I love and respect you both, and don't like to see you two fighting.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Daniel only knew about the prophecies to Israel. The unknown mystery was that God would let the Gentiles come and be a part of 'spiritual' Israel. And some national Jews would not. Peter was the first told about this when he had the vision of the sheet filled with unclean creatures.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

True until John 20, which is about after He rose again. That is part of the gospels. But all of Jesus' teachings were about the New Covenant. It is like writing a will, but it not being inherited until after His death. But the gospels also shows His resurrection, so what you said is mute.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Daniel is a perfect example of prophecies for the nation of Israel, but also the New Covenant to them. Again, we are grafted into it. Jesus has already completed Daniel 9:24 in us if you are born again, and 25-27 is about the timing of when the Messiah would come and be cut off, and things...
