    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

Just one passage of Scripture rarely makes anything perfectly clear—that's just sound hermeneutics. In Mark 9:43-48 Christ quite evidently refers to the same judgment fires as those described in Isaiah 66:24, where we read: "They [the righteous] shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of...

You're preaching to the choir. :)

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

I know—I've read it. I don't think I'd win Class President, either. And who cares, anyway? I hear Jesus was very unpopular here. You know, I didn't care for it that much at first (it's not his best look), but it's really starting to grow on me.

I'm just here for the love, J. :D

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

I just mean that the various words for love in Scripture are to delineate fallen human behavior. For God, self-sacrificing, other-centered love is all there is. Can the unregenerate really agape one another? Agape is basically loving everyone—even our enemies. We all start out as enemies of God...

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

The subject will not go away. Someone will start another thread on it (not very likely me). We have quite a cycle going here at CB. :) I've noticed the proponents of eternal torment are very uncomfortable discussing it. I don't understand why. It almost seems like the very foundation of some...

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

"Primary" is the key word in the sentence: "The prospect of final punishment was never meant to be the primary motive for loving God with all the strength, heart, and mind." I have no desire to see Scripture rewritten. Did I give you that impression?

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

Everyone who believeth not suffers exactly commensurate with their deeds in the flesh, my friend. God is not mocked. They simply perish at the end of their just reward. God is just and merciful. :):):)

He'll flip the -ignore- switch on you in a hurry, that's for sure. I can say whatever I want to him and he can't even see it. - lol

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

There is, but there shouldn't be. In Christ's heart they are one and the same. In man: Matthew 5:46 KJV: For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

Why do people like you have to use phrases such as "people like you?" - lol

You just can't resist insulting people with whom you disagree, can you?

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

I don't mind referring to other versions, updates, etc., but I have so much committed to memory from the King James that I could never memorize from another, I don't believe. :)

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

I like the influence you have brought to this community, Johann. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. It looks to me like whosoever believeth not, simply perish. Strong's Concordance...

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

It's quite ironic that the verse that all Christians know by heart is the same one that contains evidence contrary to something nearly all of them believe, isn't it?

    Let's discuss..cessation after death?

Representations and phraseology, I'm not sure about. Remedial for everyone, indeed. Heaven would be a place of torture for the unrepentant rebels against God's government. They would find no peace there. Temporary. Not at all. Quite final. Sin and sinners gone I like this account. (link)
