Refuting soul sleep, aka dirt nap doctrine

This is all just mental gymnastics to get around the plain reading of Scripture. You're welcome to believe this convoluted nonsense, if you're so convicted, but it makes no sense to me whatsoever. After #2, I just had to stop. It hurts my head. To say that Ecclesiastes 9:5 doesn't prove that the...

And out comes the millennium. More stuff to argue about. :)

Over my head. You're gonna hafta be more specific. I ain't that smart. Only if you feel like it, though. :)

Unless "persons" and "souls" mean the same thing (as they do if you leave Greek philosophy out of your Christianity). Or you could just claim that the NASB is more accurate than the King James in some passages, as you seem to have done here. Aren't you a KJV-only kinda fella? But isn't that...

Could you perhaps point to a case of "definitions and understandings beyond Scripture" in one of these posts? Unless, of course, one is a Gospel of Paul defender. They're everywhere, it seems.

Beyond Scripture? That's lightly humorous. Hey, no need to get personal. It's not like I invented conditional immortality. I just don't want to turn into a brawler as I did over in the trinity debate thread, recently. :)

Why do we need to deviate from the KJV rendering to come to a better understanding? Are you suggesting that there is some deficiency in the translation?

It seems you missed the whole point of my remark. The evidence from Scripture that I've provided is enough to properly represent my position on the subject. IMO, there's not much that needs to be added. Just wanted to stop by and present a half-decent case for the "dirt nap" camp/"cult."

Refuting soul sleep, aka dirt nap doctrine

The thing I've noticed about those who deny that you're dead when you die is that they can't agree on what their convoluted definition of death is. That's what happens when you allow Greek dualism to invade your Christianity.

Aren't you indulging in the genetic fallacy here, just a bit? :) Although a clear definition of "extraordinary" would definitely factor into this, too. Just ignore me; most people do. lol

What church? No "spirit" is mentioned: Then the LORD יְהוָ֨ה (Yah·weh) Noun - proper - masculine singular Strong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israel God אֱלֹהִ֜ים (’ĕ·lō·hîm) Noun - masculine plural Strong's 430: gods -- the supreme God, magistrates, a superlative formed...

    "Please Report Heresy"

Do you think getting a Bible based on the KJV is a big priority for the believers in China and India? Hard for me to imagine. They've got real problems over there. :)

I don't think a lot of human logic can explain the workings and purposes of the Almighty. Unconditional immortality takes that which is simple and makes it Hellenistically complicated. Genesis 2:7 Parallel: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils...

    I Don't Know About You...But I Feel Like...(finish the sentence)

I was a deacon for a few years. lol :D

Genesis 2:7: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

No doubt. Who said it wasn't descriptive? By the way, the doctrine teaches that the soul is a body + breath. There is no Hellenistic duality involved as you describe. :)

Or, it could just be that they have been taught and brought up differently. When I was a youngster, I lived on a block where about six neighbors shared a huge space consisting of our collective backyards. We were at an age where we were all being taught something about death and spirituality...
