Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

CL, I don't think so. Throughout 1 John it speaks of those who are believers: 'and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one' (1 Jn 2:`4 NIV). Oz

Atheist objections to evidence for God's existence

brakelite, Which evidence would you point to for a demonstration of God's existence? Granted that people have to make a choice, but for an atheist what are the choices laid out before him or her concerning God's existence? Oz

Atheist objections to evidence for God's existence

farouk, It is true that we must have belief in the existence of God before we come to Him for his salvation. However, is this faith a leap of faith or is it founded on facts/evidence? We need to marry Heb 11:6 with Romans 1:18-20. It is faith based on evidence that God has provided. Oz

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

So, does that make you sinless right now? If we are 'cleansed of all sin', how would 1 John 1:9 apply as it states that if the believer sins, he or she has to confess the sin?

Atheist objections to evidence for God's existence

BGE, Do you accept the evidence from historical science or will you accept only empirical science as evidence of substance? God has provided us with evidence of his existence. Are you open to consider it seriously or must the evidence be according to your presuppositions? Oz

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

historyb, So is your view the only one which is correct? Making accusation about 'false Christianity' on this forum - without providing - exegesis from the biblical text is irresponsible and will stir trouble. Can you imagine Jesus saying to the thief on the cross, 'Repent and be baptized'...

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

Mungo, You ask 3 excellent questions here. I'll attempt an answer, one at a time: 1. It seems to me that the Bible is 'our only point of reference' according to 2 Tim 3:16-17 (NIV): 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in...

Atheist objections to evidence for God's existence

BGE, What kind of evidence would you accept? Which evidence would you reject? Oz

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

What is an 'antitype'? You haven't answered my question yet.

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

Is that total sanctification or progressive sanctification?

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

farouk, ‘Born of water and the Spirit’ (John 3:5). What does it mean? If we look in the context, could we get a hint? ‘Flesh gives birth to the flesh’ (v 6) could point to water as physical birth vs spiritual birth. The meaning of the phrase has generated lots of possible meanings, such as...

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

Mungo, That is not what 1 Peter 3:21 teaches. It states: 'There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism....' Please explain the meaning of baptism as 'an antitype'. Oz

Is water baptism necessary for salvation?

charity, Excellent topic. Since the thief on the cross went straight to be with Jesus in Paradise at death (without baptism) was he a saved or unsaved person in Paradise? (see Luke 23:43). As for Mark 16:16, it is doubtful if it should be in the NT as Mk 16:9-20 is not included in some of the...

    Fundamentalism

teamventure, When you state, "I was told tonight that a lot of fundamentalism is not biblical and is mans opinion", your foundation is not based on evidence but on 'I was told ...' - which is opinion by somebody. Hear-say evidence is not good enough for substantial discussion. Oz

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

Straw man fallacy again. It is fallacious reasoning. We cannot have a reasonable discussion when you twist what I write to try to make it fit into your theology/ideology.

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

Not true. You have stated what I did not say. Yours is a straw man fallacy.

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

That is not what Rom 4:5 teaches: 'But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness' (NASB). The Christian person who 'believes in Him' is justified (declared righteous) because the Christian's 'faith is credited (reckoned)...

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

So, who are the con men/women in this thread?

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

That is not my understanding of imputed righteousness, which is God declaring me righteous in Christ. Evangelical theologian, Wayne Grudem, explained: When we say that God imputes Christ's righteousness to us it means that God thinks of Christ's righteousness as belonging to us, or regards it...

Why is the "Imputed righteousness" scheme so seductive?

Episkopos, I'd appreciate it if you would define your terms. What is your definition of 'imputed righteousness'? Where did you get the idea that it included a 'great delusion of a spiritual immunity from judgment'? Oz
