Why does everyone seem to need to come up with their own belief and doctrinal formula?

We'll have to agree to disagree. I can, at least, read the NIV and NLT. (And I think the NLT is the very best translation available in English. The very best - unless you are doing a word for word analysis, which most rarely do.) It doesn't help me to say the best translation of the Bible is in...

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

What are the options besides the trinity? Do you notice the present tense? Isaiah was written 500 years before Christ, referring to a child born in his day. Jesus is not called any of the things Isaiah then lists. Profound.

Why does everyone seem to need to come up with their own belief and doctrinal formula?

Why would anyone do that when there are FAR better translations regarding both, the FROM and the TO? Today's translators have better mastery of ancient languages and older manuscripts (Dead See scrolls found in the 1970's, etc) than the KJ translators. Regarding the TO, the KJV translates to...

    Exploring Trinitarian Logic

You're just doing laps on ground already covered. Re-read my response to post 505, etc.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

A different line of talk going on? The implied premise of your question below is the testimony of yours that I have disqualified as definitive by referring to the authoritative reference. sml In response, you went from the authoritative reference to a red herring about the book of Enoch...

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

No. The word is best translated "through." This means Jesus was the means or purpose by which the Creator created. Sons are created beings, not the creator.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

LOL You got that right! My paycheck is coming up soon but not soon enough to keep up with your "interfaith" references.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

I don't know about THE authority. LOL

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

The fun you are having is being obtuse. Another post where you reveal a rejection of embracing authoritative references. Perhaps this will help. https://www.montana.edu/rmaher/ee417/Authoritative%20References.pdf Suppose you are a witness on a jury trial. You say you heard a rumor that the...

Evidently, you did not understand what I wrote about authoritative references.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

All Gospels, including the Apocrypha Thomas and Mary are about the Good News that Jesus is the Messiah.

Why does everyone seem to need to come up with their own belief and doctrinal formula?

The psychological importance of having a story to explain the world in which we live does not depend on it being true. Look at kids. They ask questions about the world they see and often accept whatever story a trusted adult tells them that explains what they observe. The belief in Santa shows...

    Exploring Trinitarian Logic

LOL. You invoked it to support and defend the trinity. From the time of Moses to Jesus is about 1700 years. This Jewish text was NEVER taken as evidence of a tri-une God until the 4th century, when trinitarians came to power in the Roman Empire, engaging here in revisionist history of the...

Why does everyone seem to need to come up with their own belief and doctrinal formula?

Not so much the metaphysics but the epistemology that keeps our sanity. When our metaphysics is wrong, that is our opportunity to reconcile with cognitive dissonance. Getting back to the need for a world view, it explains the human need all over the world, across every culture, for myths...

Why does everyone seem to need to come up with their own belief and doctrinal formula?

We all need a world view to function properly.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

No. Not at all. On this forum, we all have Christ in common and, by extension, the Bible. Other books may not be in common. Yes, I assumed your reference was from Scripture because Scripture also refers to the transfiguration.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

Have you read other Apocrypha, Such as the Gospel of Mary? For Christmas, a friend gave me the collection of HG Wells science fiction and I have about 10 other books before I get to this Christmas gifts. So, it’ll be a while before I get to any Apocrypha.

Did ANYONE In Scripture (Including Jesus), Claim Jesus IS God?

Sure! I read many books besides Scripture. However, a general maxim is to rely on (meaning invoke) the most authoritative reference first, then pivot to additional supportive materials. For instance, FDR asked Congress for a declaration of war, which they voted for within 24 hours. General...

    Exploring Trinitarian Logic

“Us” and “our” does not mean 3 or 3 in 1. None of this says the nature of God is a trinity or having to believe it a requirement of salvation. The fact that you have to invoke such verses and read your doctrine into it shows how desperate it must be to defend a doctrine absent from Scripture.
