Perfect really has nothing to do with Him giving his life. God so loved the world....that has something to do with Him giving His life.

There are several speculative explanations for this. The best I have heard is that Christ was having problems getting disciples and there are scriptures telling of the excuses they were giving....pertaining to their family. This many have been a statement of exasperation.
