@Christianna Welcome to the forum!

Reading in particular about Andrew Jackson (and to a lesser extent also Thomas Jefferson) made me realize how very different the people themselves had to be during that time to even elect such a man. He was a very popular hero to the people and should have won the first time he ran for President...

Notice in the polls results I posted that two of our greatest presidents, Washington and Jefferson were also slave owners. Likely the next time someone compiles such a poll on Presidents, they may move downward in the 'standings'... considering the way the wind seems to blowing today. I thought...

See also these poll results taken during the 20th Century for U.S. Presidents:

A few of years ago I read a few books on the Presidents of the United States and compiled some information about them. Consider the slave holders among them and the number of slaves owned. [The first number is presidential order. The ones missing did not own slaves]: 1 Washington: 317 3...

LOL... How many churches do not have that 501c3 agreement with Uncle Sam?

If someone who has received the Holy Spirit fights with his own power only, it is because he is quenching the Holy Spirit in him. One big problem is that most [or is it all?] church groups regularly practice quenching the Holy Spirit. By their man made rules they teach people to quench the Holy...

And likely because so many hold to a similar theology the words of Jesus regarding the wide and broad gate leading to destruction applies to most of that many. They take hold of their own salvation first instead of His kingdom and His righteousness. They love themselves more than they love God!

That certainly applies as well. The problem with most people who err it seems to me as they supposedly walk with God is that they walk in delusion. They walk in delusion per Apostle Paul because they never had or they have lost their love for truth.

The Right Pastor for a seeker is the one God gives as a gift to that seeker. People get in trouble in their searches for the right church and the right pastor, because they bypass God in their search. There are lot of position holders named pastors who have never checked in the Bible or with God...

Of course he may enjoy things! But with or without much in the way of creature comforts, he will be held to a higher standard, I believe by God than other men.

It would not bother me that they were being paid a reasonable salary if I also knew they were really putting God and God's people before their own personal comforts. If a person wanted simply to be materially comfortable, probably he should not be pursuing a vocation as a minister to people.

Our hope for something better, something good, must be in the Lord. In the world of men it is all formed by men, who are at best a selfish lot. Unfortunately, too many of those bearing the label of Christian are also very selfish. On forums like this it is common to read more about the blessings...

More than 30 years ago, my wife's baby brother went into what was then East Palo Alto on San Francisco Bay in California to buy drugs. He was murdered for an unknown reason, but probably because he was a white man in a totally lawless black neighborhood where illegals drugs were easy to obtain...

Give God the glory!

Agreed! Does this really work? I have never been a part of a church big enough have that many elders or formal ministers so I cannot speak from even observing such things. There were problems in small churches, but not quite the same. In small churches of my experience the pastor often or...

I am a bit more stand offish on such questions when they don't affect me personally or directly at this point. After my Catholicism which effectively really ended in about 1961 my reintroduction to God was into Oneness Jesus Only in 1976. I lasted there for 11 years, but never returned to it or...

I don't believe that, but no argument. I have known @Helen, who believes as you do, for a great many years on forums and we have discussed that at times, but I also always remember that God alone gives the increase. Will He ever increase me in that direction? I do not see it, but God knows!

I will always remember Willie favorably. He was a good friend to me here. I am praying for his wife and family in this difficult time for them.

And if a person did not know that, but really was hungry and thirsty for the righteousness of God, would it ultimately make a difference? "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matt 5:6
