    The Altar Call

Don’t get me wrong. There’s merit in developing a healthy biblical based fear of God.

    The Altar Call

The Sunday school teachers and the pastor have. He attends a Baptist private school. I think he’s getting it there too. I’m actively working against them.

    The Altar Call

“Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you’re not saved, be sure of that!” - C.H. Spurgeon Spurgeon didn’t use altar calls. Yes, if anyone is wondering, I want my grandson (and others) to be saved. It’s easy to manipulate a seven year old child, to say nothing of adults. I don’t want...

    The Altar Call

Thanks but I’d rather the thread not go in that direction. (There are numerous threads on that issue and my view is posted in several of them.) I would really like to stay focused on altar calls. What do you think about them? The timing of this family issue is, I think, more than just coincidental.

Those platforms didn’t exist when the series originally aired on TV in the 50’s and 60’s. I don’t know if it’s ever been on TikTok but it can be seen on YouTube.

    Reason for The Crusades explained

Since we’ve drifted from the Crusades now, did anyone else grow up watching Crusader Rabbit? (It was the first made for TV animated cartoon.) https://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/the-hare-raising-tales-of-crusader-rabbit/

    The Altar Call

I assume you responded to an altar call. I appreciate you sharing your perspective. It needs to be part of the conversation. Surely there are a great number of people who have and are very comfortable with it.

    The Altar Call

It’s troubling to me when adults are subjected to that kind of psychological manipulation - that word may get me into hot water with some folks but that’s how I honestly view it, even with the knowledge that it is being applied with good intention - but it really bothers me when children are...

    The Altar Call

It’s an “interesting” development; similar to what happened to me as a child. I was the boy’s age in 1964 and my grandparents took me to church with them every week. The altar call pressure was on me every Sunday morning. One Sunday my grandparents asked me of I would like to be baptized and I...

    The Altar Call

The family member is presently seven years old and being pressed for a commitment at a Baptist church. The parents are indifferent about altar calls, seeing no problem with it. I’m the child’s grandfather, and he’s been speaking to all of us about it.

    The Altar Call

Welcome to the forum. I haven’t read that particular book by Tozer and don’t have a copy of it in my personal library. I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. I‘m going to have to deal with it sooner or later with a close family member and it’s been weighing heavily on my spirit for...

    The Altar Call

What is the origin of the altar call? “It is generally recognized that the altar call was invented by a Presbyterian evangelist named Charles G. Finney who lived from 1792-1875. Finney referred to the altar call as coming to the anxious seat or to the inquiry room and began using it in his...

An illustration of the importance of reading and knowing church history. The early church provides the refutation of the siren’s call.

    The Altar Call

The altar call (method? technique? tool?) is common in some churches, unknown in others. This afternoon I watched the linked video on the subject. (Which was prompted by a comment I read on the forum earlier in the day.) The presenter begins the video by warning his audience that what he is...
