    The Quranic Dilemma

Did Paul, a Jew, know what was written by pagan philosophers?

    What would you do?

I always get around to asking non-Christians what their hope is. When I first asked @Riven what his hope is, he didn’t give me the answer that he gave in post #25. The poignant answer he’s given now is a great place for him to start. Is it a hope that can be realized? What is the Bible’s answer...

    What would you do?

I think you‘ll find Flew’s book persuasive. If you do, that’s going to move you from agnostic to theist - but not necessarily from agnostic to Christian. That will be a reset for you, taking you back to those days when you didn’t get an answer to your questions and didn’t feel like you were...

    The Quranic Dilemma

That’s right. Both sides will dig in and both sides will bleed. That’s the history of Islam and Christianity in a nutshell.

    The Quranic Dilemma

No. I’m trying to show you why the approach - which I intentionally made offensive to amplify the point - doesn’t work.

    The Quranic Dilemma

“We do not need to study the bible = we must study the Holy Quran and pray to Allah for …” Neither is going to impact the other.

    Kill or be killed

I composed a post explaining, let it sit for a few minutes, and decided not to share it with you and my readers. It was too heavy to lay on anyone here.

    The Quranic Dilemma

“I don’t knows nothin ‘bouts wut yo buuk say but lets me tell y'all demon warshpers what da Ghost say.” If I were a devout Muslim and someone came to me with that approach? Instant rejection. If a Muslim approached me like that about the Bible? Instant rejection. That approach (in either...

    The Quranic Dilemma

If we don’t know what the Quran says then we won’t be effective in speaking with Muslims about it. If a Muslim doesn’t know what the Bible says then he or she won’t be effective in speaking with Jews and Christians about it. Know your enemy. Reading his book equips us to do that.

    The Quranic Dilemma

The hole in the argument is that the Muslim believes the New Testament has been corrupted. The New Testament we have clearly says that Jesus was crucified, died, was buried and bodily resurrected. The Muslim knows that. He firmly believes that’s not what the original New Testament said. That’s...

    What would you do?

Do you think your agnosticism is, or could possibly be, connected with this event in your life? A child is traumatized and asks, consciously or subconsciously, “Since God exists, why did he allow my innocent baby brother to die?” You asked me not long ago what I would feel if I were in your...

    Kill or be killed

I’m on a bit of a lark with @Jay Ross. It could end badly for me but I’m prepared for it if it should happen. * Making an estimate now on how many memes, cartoons, jokes, inspirational quotes ... maybe he’ll cut me some slack if the total is impressive enough. My attempt to use humor may not...

    The Quranic Dilemma

The prepared Muslim won’t have any difficulty brushing the dilemma aside. It’s not a dilemma at all, unless the hole is filled. If / when that happens, there is a real dilemma. Filling the hole makes a big difference in how the conversation unfolds. Want to win the Muslim? We have to first know...

    Kill or be killed

Tell me true, do you think I resemble that remark?
  15. Matthias

    The Quranic Dilemma

There is a hole in the Quaranic Dilemma and anyone who wants to use it as a tool for conversation had better be aware of it before he or she does. The Muslim who has done his or her homework will cause you to regret it if you haven’t done yours.

    What would you do?

@Riven given your indecision about the existence of God, I think that Flew’s book, rather than the Bible, is a good starting point for you. (The Bible begins with the assertion / assumption that God exists and acts. That hasn’t persuaded you.) Pivoting on my recommendation, not abandoning it...

The happy thread was dead. Long live the happy thread!

    The Quranic Dilemma

A three and a half minute video. Beginning at the 1:47 mark - “The Quran says that Christians and Jews ought to obey the Old Testament and the Gospels. … Here’s the problem. Elsewhere in the Quran ... it says that Jesus never died, was taken straight to heaven, so he couldn’t have resurrected...
