1John 2:6 whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.

I wonder what the apostle means by that, walking as Jesus (God in the flesh) seems impossible to me since Jesus was without sin and I don't.

For context -

1John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1John 2:2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
1John 2:3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.
1John 2:4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
1John 2:5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:
1John 2:6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

So how to understand v6 ?
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the [c]holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

if any believes this is not possible by those who appear in wool , THINK AGAIN .
And then go to and behold the all inclusive love of a well favored ecumeincal harlot .
For by her love they have called evil good and by their love they have called even the words of God as evil .
And none does repent of his wicked ways for they have promised THEM LIFE .
About the only ones they do turn against , ARE THE SHEEP who bring THE WORDS OF GOD unto them
and they c ast both the sheep and WORDS of GOD outta their churches and all as they holler
GOD IS LOVE away with thee hater and away with those words of hate . TALK about A DELUSION .
But were we not warned of an great apostacy growing wild nigh the end of the age . WELL IT SURE HAS .
But now for another reminder. GUESS who aint heeding this harlots love
and her all inclusive father , THE SHEEP .
CAUSE JESUS HAS THE SHEEP and HE KEEPS THEM from the evil trangression and rebellion this whore is leading
this people right into . JESUS has the sheep david . OH PRAISE GOD , FOR JESUS HAS THE SHEEP .
TRUTH . do we love it or do we hate it . WHO so ever casts the words of GOD , of CHRIST
and later the HOLY SPIRIT inspired words of the apostels OUT , in fa vor of another love
ARE THOSE WHO HATE THE T RUTH and LOVE RATHER A LIE . And this the sheep do not do
FOR JESUS HAS THE SHEEP .
FOR this cause was i born and for this very reason did i come INTO the WORLD ,
TO TESTIFY OF THE TRUTH . All who are OF THE TRUTH hear me , come to ME .
Not to a jesus that panders to sin and unbleief , BUT TO THE ONE TRUE JESUS who exposed darkness
and had testified that the deeds of man are evil . something this dark love WONT DO .
But rather panders to sins and unbeleif . SO IT DARN sure is not OF GOD at all . It is of
this one . HAS GOD REALLY SAID as it quoates twisted doctrine to cause UNBELEIF of what GOD REALLY DID say .
That one be the serpent and IT cannot save . JESUS CAN SAVE and IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE .

Yesterday I had a bad day. Windows managed to destroy itself (thank you Bill) on my main PC up to the point it even refused to boot and I was forced to do a clean Windows 11 install, meaning the loss of zillion fine tuned tools I use, thus reinstall everything and hope for the best. And so the stress level raised, ending in an uncommon yet very bad mood, knowing by a long time experience the road ahead to restoration would be another stressful period for 4-5 days. So I sinned, I confessed. I believe I am forgiven.

But the 1 John passages above tell a different story, I am from the devil, do not know Jesus, I am a liar, t have no truth, I am not born of God because those who are born of God do not sin.

Kindly shed your light on this, will you?

Correct.

Now that we talking, walking in the Sprit, walking in the Light, abide in Him, all the same or are there differences between them ?

AMEN!

You see that well.

Yes!

I also do believe in the process of sanctification, imagine that right after the moment of conversion, born of God, the Lord would put all the things (sins) that need change on you, one would collapse under the weight and so (fortunately) it goes step by step, of course depending on the openness for being corrected by the Word and the Holy Spirit. So yesterday was an unpleasant reminder that something totally unexpected that happened still triggered me to become hot tempered, I feel bad about myself, but I also know :

Rom 7:24 A wretched man I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death? directly followed by :
Rom 8:1 There is, then, now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit;

Thank you for your kind and insightful post.
I'm sorry to hear about your computer woes...that does sound like a tough one.

I have never quite known how to take those scriptures John wrote which @Hepzibah posted.......is the sin John is talking about referring to the ten commandments, or is it talking about wilful sins, or a lifestyle of sinning......I don't know the grammatical tense of the words...whether it means "keep on sinning" like in the case of the verse elsewhere about wilful sins. So maybe it is not speaking about occasional inadvertent sin when the flesh gets the better of us in a weak moment...? That would make more sense to me, but I don't know if it is actually accurate in John's verses.

Heb 10:26
For if we sin wilfully (ie, keep on sinning wilfully) after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

@ProDeo

Romans 13:11

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Oh ProDeo! I entirely sympathise having pc problems myself ie mine will not accept windows 11 and has 10 which runs out next month and I have been hacked, having terrible problems with passwords. I pray for you.

Only this for the moment, if you have a legal Windows 10 you can freely update to 11.

Note that there are many small shops who let you pay for an illegal Windows version, if you a victim of that the free update does not work.

Edit, also if your current PC is too old the update will not work.

But the 1 John passages above tell a different story, I am from the devil, do not know Jesus, I am a liar, t have no truth, I am not born of God because those who are born of God do not sin.
The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. (1 John 2:6)

The one committing sin is from the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. (1 John 3:8)

The stated purpose of John's letter is to exhort his "little children" to not sin. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin (1 John 2:1a). Understood in this purpose, the verses you cited are about MINDSET and IDENTITY. They are NOT to be understood as literal statements about your ontological nature. John knows you're probably not going to be completely successful: he immediately adds, and if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2).

Again, this is about your mindset and identifying yourself with Jesus Christ. If you don't keep this in mind, the cognitive dissonance of the internal contradictions of 1 John will make you give up and quit. Or worse.
