A Little More About Me

Hello everyone, while I have been here @CB for about a year I am probably still a newbie to most of you.
I wanted to share a little more about myself so here goes.
I am 50 yrs old and married to a wonderful lady for over 30 yrs now, we have 1 son. We live in central NC.My first encounter with Jesus was @ 9 yrs old in my parents living room. I stopped participating in religious liturgy several years ago and now we get together with others in small groups here and there. I am an avid Austin Sparks reader and like to study the scriptures, I am blessed with rather large personal library.
I am also an avid fly fisher and love to be outdoors when ever I can.

I grew up in Iowa my dad, uncles and grandfather were bass fisher men., but we did fish for walleye.
I have always wanted to learn fly fishing.

Single, 52, one son I got custody of when he was 10. My x decided she would go her own way when he was 5, My sons now 28 were very close.

I love to fish aswell... The only problem is... I'm allergic to them.

I love to fish, nature is so amazing, i fish out of a creek thats not so abundent but catch crappie and bass.

The liturgy comes from the bible .

The most wonderful thing about the Ancient Christian liturgy is . UN like human pastors that don't use it or human pastors that forget whats realy important .... The ancient christian liturgy never forgetswhats important it always pronounce's Christ forgivness won on the cross,m,,, for all people .

The very heart of God's most important message is in the words of the liturgy ..


you can try to put it down if you want to .. But it really show's your ignorance if you do.


if it was not for the liturgy ----some people in some churches,,,, would never hear about the forgivness of sin's Jesus has truly won for them..

Good idea Aspen, I didn't know that you were a bug slinger. My wife has went and watched me fish before but she isn't very interested in doing more.

Watched the video, and don't see that I am missing much. Religious liturgy is a personal preference which is why there are so many variations withing the Christian religious system. Me and Father have a good time without all the ceremony.

I am somewhat familiar with the lutheran faith and practices but I still group it along with the other denominations as far as religious liturgy, I personally have no need for it or catholic, orthodox or episcopal liturgies. Thanks for your opinion though.

Jesus and his work for our salvation seem to be not as important to you as they are to confessonal lutherans .

the liturgy tells the bible story of our sins and what Jesus has done to win our forgivness of sin and only through trust in Jesus work for us can their be true repentance of sin.

Think of the songs of the Liturgy. We sing them . . . Luther sang them.



O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You take away the sin of the world: receive our prayer. You sit at the right hand of God the Father; have mercy on us. For you only are holy; you only are the Lord. ("Glory Be to God on High," CW, pps. 16,17)



Think of the words of the Liturgy. We hear them . . . Luther heard them.



It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who brought the gift of salvation to all people by his death on the tree of the cross so that the devil, who overcame us by a tree would in turn by a tree be overcome (CW, p. 21).




The plan of salvation the liturgy proclaims flows from the very heart and mind of God it reaches into eternity .

Thanks for the links, seems to be along the same lines of what I remembered when my son attended lutheran school. Like I said earlier, I really don't need the religious ceremony of any denomination to relate to Father. If someone else does need it OK, but I try to encourage everyone to walk in the realities of what Christ has done for us. But thats another topic and if you would like to continue a discussion on lutheranism please start another thread.
