Colossians 1

King James Version

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
  1. Something to note here in the introduction is Paul, and he introduces himself here as an apostle of Jesus Christ. For some reason people believe apostles continues to exist today. This could not be so, and Jesus is said to have chosen Paul, while Peter used a method which was no longer in use because of the dropping upon those whom were the first to experience it, which is mentioned in the book of Acts. However when the last one whom had witnessed, and placed their hands upon, which was the Word made Flesh, there would be no more apostles left. All in All, people today can be "sent" however, not in the same way as they were 'sent', and how it was by the will of God, and that by Yavavah, the LORD GOD, he was chosen to be 'sent' to the Gentiles, by being taught by the Lord for some amount of years, be encouraged to check out anything that is said here, test all things and hold on to what is good.
  2. By the will of God, was Paul even remotely able to call himself and apostle (he stated that he is the least, and shouldnt even be worthy to be called one because had persecuted the church of God prior, before now governing over it, in the Light of the Lord Jesus, and able to see from his prior life and realized he was going against the Christ.
  3. and Timotheus our brother, He is there with Paul, and perhaps they are communing with each other what would be the best and helpful way to help them in their understanding.
2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. Paul, introduces his audience here, calling the people whom are there - "to the saints and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ, which are at Colosse, It's said that Paul was in Jail during this time, (Letter of Paul to the Colossians | Summary & Facts), and was written in AD 62, while imprisoned in Rome.
  2. Paul, endues Grace unto them them, and peace from God (Yahavah/Yahweh) our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. It's important to note this.
  3. Paul extends grace, and peace, from Yahavah/Yahweh, our Father, whom was the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, is mentioned that is were peace is founded, (even with the world today due to reconciling the world back to himself through Christ)(Immanuel), God with us.
  4. and the Lord Jesus Christ, grace and truth came through him, and he is the Lord that leads us to still pastures, and calm waters, in no worry for want, peace comes from having the mind of Christ.

3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
  1. Paul and his fellow Timotheus, give thanks to Yahava and the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. How important is it that we are thankful so openly to the one whom is our Father, to pray always concerning the spiritual wellness of others to also commune and have connection with God whom creates all people, even the blind, deaf, lame, and mute. Always calling, through the looking upon the world which is around, and the flesh that we are in. Praying always, concerning other matters in supplications, may go answered or unanswered, the point is, maintaining a relationship with Yahavah, through the Lord Yeshua, growing a thick substance which is well water deep, and never running out, with bread which gives life, by partaking the eating of the flesh of the Lord, and by partaking the drinking of the Lords blood. Which is hard to hear but it's speaking of our partaking with the Lord and his sufferings on earth, (not as an extremism or to be looked down or anything.) Paul mentions later in his second letter, saying "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him (speaking of the reigning of those in Revelation?); if we deny him, he will also deny us."
  2. Pray always, give time and godly devotion to Yahavah/Yahweh, and have fellowship with him, and his son (by reading the bible itself for that information.)
4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
  1. Paul and his fellowworker in Christ, explains since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which you have to all the saints.
  2. Saints, here in greek is hagious - (set apart by (or for) God, holy. If this is the case, it would seem that Paul expresses these holy people, who are being governed under the Apostles who are trying to hold everything together, until the coming of the Lord.
  3. These people showed good will towards others, which is to love them, in a way that God prefers and not how ones ownself may go and reaction and do about a certain circumstance or situation. To love God first, and to love others as yourself, is to share knowledge with others, while putting God first.
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

  1. For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven - There is a hope for them which is laid up in heaven, the Heavenly Jerusalem. Where there certain rewards concerning them? It is not impossible but one to consider, however even so, today believers build up spiritual riches here on earth, by building upon the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ, looking towards God whom is pleased by those who have, and he is a rewarder of those who seek him out.
  2. whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel. (The death, burial, and resurrection, ascending, and one day to be coming in their generation.) Newness of life continues to happen today in my opinion by and through being born again of the spirit which takes a person who was in a spiritually deadness, becomes made spiritually alive in and through the Lord Jesus, after all the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and cause deliverance by the Spirit of God, being made freed of bondage of sin, and now free to live in the Spirit, having relationship with the Father, and the Son.
6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

  1. The Gospel had reached the people at Colossae, Paul exclaims, it has reached out to being in and throughout the world (at that time); The Holy spirit now being given has started to bring forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day you heart it, and knew the grace of God in truth.
  2. Those whom come to God. The good news, brought forth fruit.
  3. It brought them to know the grace of God in truth:

7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;
  1. Epaphras a fellowworker in Christ, was sent for the people at Colossae, and was a minister of Christ faithful unto them. And they are continuing to progress as they continue to produce and bring forth fruit, because they are staying in what they are able to stand on which was knowing the grace of God in truth.

8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
  1. Epaphras, having ministered to these at this church, declared to Paul and Timotheus, the love which was coming from them in the Spirit.

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

  1. Because of these things, since hearing such a wonderful joy of those looking to God faithfully, and standing on the foundation which is laid that is Christ, continue to pray for them never ceasing. (A good reminder of how believers today, should continue this pattern of praying about all things and for all the people in the world).
  2. Notice - that Paul prays that they may have a desire, to be filled with the knowledge of Gods will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
  1. In order do be at peace with God, and in order that they may walk worthy of the Lord
  2. Doing unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God
  3. John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
  4. Prayed for by Paul, Epaphrus, and Timotheus. (notice)

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
  1. Praying to be strengthen with all might,
  2. according to his glorious power, (being indwelled by the Holy Spirit of God, and the Spirit of Christ), abiding in Christ.
  3. unto all patience
  4. and longsuffering (with joyfulness) though we may groan. These words have some type of definition worth looking into.
  5. 2 Corinthians 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
  1. Paul again mentioning thanks unto the Father, (YHWH, or YHVH), Jehovah, Yahavah, Yahweh, (Other languages like spanish or nordic, not sure if bible translations like that perhaps are different from our understanding.) The Father is the one whom spoke the Word, in the beginning.
  2. The Father, has made us (the Apostles and those who are governed under them at that time) meet,
  3. in order to be partakers of the inheritance of the (holy/set apart), saints in light.

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

  1. the Father has delivered us from the power of darkness (notice not SATAN, or anything else),
  2. and the Father has translated us into the Kingdom of his dear son. (Moving away from the darkness, and into the light).

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
  1. Paul continues onward speaking to the audience, it's by the Son in whom we have redemption.
  2. It's because of the blood that he had shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:20)
  3. Notice, that there is redemption through his blood,
  4. however even though redemption through his blood is there, his blood also was in order to pay for the sins of all people in order for all people sins to be forgiven. (That is how I could explain in the best simplest way possible.) All sins for all people are forgiven. Only one sin is not and that is deny God because of ones own self-willed action, and choice to actively reject God's constant calling.
  5. God is always calling to all, but if you close him out, perhaps the wandering in the darkness, the knock on the heart starts to become faint as the blind, deaf who became blinded in their day.

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

  1. The Word of God, which was born by and through Mary, and of the line of David by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit, named Jesus, and Immanuel (God with them;us).
  2. He by the flesh was the image of the invisible God,
  3. He was the by the Spirt born, and being the Word of God, the firstborn of every creature - ever being God, from within, yet being man, by outward appetences.
  4. First one of any creature to be born in such a way, know as the Word of God, - have no idea what that looks like except by the expression one learns by and through going in and through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

  1. For by him, (being the Word), were all things created, that in heaven, that are in earth, visible, and invisible, whether they be thrones, dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him;

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

  1. For by him, (being the Word), and the Son, he is before all things and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

  1. And he is the head of the body,
  2. the church (which is governed over by the Apostles).,
  3. who is the beginning (the Word),
  4. First born from the dead (First one ever raised from the dead by the Holy Spirit of God), seen by his apostles and others, by a fleshly body because if it was a spirit body they would not have been able to see it. (have questions? just ask.)

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
  1. For it pleased the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell - This is a reflection also to me of the Father, and his allowance of his Son sitting on his own throne, Revelation 1-4.
  2. It also reminds me how believers today are indwelled by God, by the holy spirit of God, also by the Spirit of Christ.
  3. Believers have a direct connection with God who believe, and are the Father is pleased for us to have relationship with him
  4. Even if he does know all our needs.

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

  1. Because of this, (God reconciled the world unto himself through Christ), having made peace
  2. through the blood of his cross,
  3. and by him all things are reconciled back unto himself;
  4. by him, I say wheter they be things in earth, or in heaven.

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

  1. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works,
  2. Now you are reconciled, forgiving your sins and also allowing you to partake in redemption.
  3. Going from the darkness into the light, into the Kingdom of God, having peace, and being indwelled by God
  4. The world had been reconciled in order for all to be now called by the spirit, and not by those who stick and stay in religious practices.
  5. God desired for a way to be broken free from bondage by and through the spirit, bondage that is caused by our own sinful desires and lusts, and acted upon temptations.

22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

  1. By and through the death, putting our own flesh to death burying it in the grave with the Lord,
  2. and by raising again in newness of life with relationship with your Father who adopts you, through the Lord Yeshua to be his Child,
  3. Making newness of life.
  4. Paul here is also governing the church of that day - and says to present you holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sight.
  5. Today it could be said that it is because of Yeshua that we are able to even have access to our Father and all praise be to them both.

23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
  1. Paul goes on to assert that, they will be made unblameable, and unreprovable in Gods sight, - - - if - - - they continue in the faith grounded and settled.
  2. And not be moved away
  3. From the hope founded in the good news, which they have heard, and which was preached
  4. to every creature which under heaven (did the Gospel reach everyone it was suppose to reach under heaven at this time?)
  5. whereof I Paul am made a minister.

24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

  1. Paul not rejoiced in his sufferings for those in Colossae, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his body's sake. It seems that Paul rejoices in his sufferings, which fill up that which is behind of the afflications of Christ in his flesh for his body's sake, which is the church.
  2. Again to me this is significant of the church which they governed over at that time, which the apostles are going and trying to keep things together, in order for this church to be made, blameless and pure in the sight of the Father, and become the bride, which is part of the body they are governing for the Lord Jesus Christ which was their mission.
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
  1. Paul was made a minister because of the church of Christ, according tot he dispensation of God, which is given to me for you,
  2. in order to fulfil the word of God; --- fulfil

26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

  1. Even the mystery which has been hid from ages and from generation; but not is made manifest to his saints.
  2. The mystery was hidden but not brought forth due to the light of Christ.

27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
  1. To whom God, would make known that is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
  2. Which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;

28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
  1. To whom we preach, warning every man (of the wrath that would come upon the LORD, in that day), and teaching every man in all wisdom.
  2. That we may present every man (complete, fulfilled) = perfect, in Christ Jesus.

29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

  1. Whereunto I, Paul, also labour, striving according to his working; which works in me mightily.
