A Word of Advice to Everyone

I just thought that I would make a topic about this since @Devin Wintch and I were just discussing it of how I don't click on any unknown questionable links if I don't know what they are. I just want to protect my computer and even though I have a virus protection, I'm pretty sure it's not one hundred percent guaranteed that I won't get a virus. So I just thought that it would be good advice to everyone here just to be careful as well since not everybody is and it's just a friendly reminder to use common sense and good judgement. :) As fun as it is, the internet isn't really the safest place to be unfortunately. (That's also why I am very careful what I post about and not to give out any personal information. :) )

Umm,.. I thought I was all along lol I was also explaining to you and other people on here why I might not click a link you post. Not only for virus protection reasons, but in case it puts something or downloads something on my computer that I don't want. Better to be safe than sorry. :) (I mean you seem nice and all but I can't really trust anybody a hundred percent on the internet. Especially with personal information. No offense.)

Sure, it's better to be safe than sorry, and for most people I think your advice is smart.

I think most people know this, you can easily see a links internet address. Then you can tell for yourself if its a trusted domain or not. For instance if the address starts with "www.foxnews.com" then I know the link is addressing that website.

But clicking on the link might not be safe if a hacker has placed an alternate link there instead, I'm not really worried about viruses, I got hacked a while back from a physics forum I visit. And if they want to crash your computer they will. But I have a ROM backup for my system so I just restore the OS and I'm back up and running. But still really annoying.

That's the thing,..I'm pretty sure that there are ways to change a link's address and that's what scares me.

If you don't really know computer stuff all too well then I would advise not clicking any link. I'm not going to give a class on how to tell what URL is under a link, because there are plenty of internet articles on the subject already you can look up. Cheers.

Yeah I'm not very computer savvy at all lol but I'll click on other news articles if they seem normal enough. That's pretty interesting about your class though. When are you doing that?

You may be referring to a redirect where you think you're going to one site and the direct you to another.

@April_Rose if you're not going to click on links, then why post videos? They apparently can contain malware. So I think that is an important point to bring up in this discussion. On the issue I found this:
