as a virtual arm of the institutions/government, i would have to disagree, even though i get your reasoning there.
But paying taxes would mark them as separate from the government, which demonstrably they are not, right

Springfield Bishop Paprocki repeats: Senator Durbin is not to be admitted to Holy Communion

This bishop is playing politics with a congressmans salvation. Democrat or Republican or Independent should not be restricted from receiving the Eucharist for doing their job. The diocese should be paying taxes

The coin has two sides.

Durbin represents the People, whether or not he personally agrees with what the People want.

Paprocki represents the Church, whether or not he personally agrees with what the Church wants.

Dubin's position does not force anyone to exercise a law, they want.

Paprocki's position does not Prevent Durbin from participating in Communion.

Anyone can take bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus, any place.

Men were not in a Temple, or a Church, when Jesus first told men to take bread and drink in remembrance of Him. Nor did He put the bread and drink in their mouths.
That is simply a Tradition the Chruchs drummed up.

Bottom line; the Lord is not all caught up in Traditions of men. Neither should men be.

The Lord wants remembrance of Him, to be the focus of men.

Just saying ~ a man can not take another mans "right" to take bread and drink in remembrance of Jesus....

If this was a Protestant minister, you would be right. In this situation, Catholicism and Protestantism have different teachings, which have huge implications for Durbins salvation. It also brings up control issues between the Catholic Church and government.

or the perception of it, anyway

i always wondered how the RCC could justify not allowing someone Communion; i read "let a man examine himself...?"

Well If Durbins Salvation is in Jeopardy, according to the Catholic belief...that's pretty sad.

Actually - this is the Bishop's call and he is perfectly within his Authority to make such a declaration.
As Bishop, Paprocki has discerned that Durbin's actions have deemed him to be in grave sin on the issue of abortion.

To say that Durbin is "just doing his job" is as naive and blind and as Nazi officers claiming that they were "just doing their job" in the Concentration Camps . . .
