God used a virgin, human woman to be the channel for His Son, Jesus.
The Lord's mom wasn't a special creation. Her lineage is recorded in the
gospel of Luke and goes all the way back to Adam
; ergo
: Joseph's wife was
the product of normal human reproductive processes and therefore carried
Eve's genes in her body, which were genes that Eve got when she was
constructed with male human tissue that God amputated from Adam. So
then the child of a woman-- any woman, virgin or otherwise --is just as
much the child of Adam as the child of a man.
FAQ: if Jesus was truly Adam's progeny, then wouldn't he have inherited
Adam's human nature right along with the rest of his true progeny?
Yes.
FAQ: but shouldn't the lamb of God be sinless?
Yes.
FAQ: can you explain how it's possible for a human being born with Adam's
human nature to be tempted in all points as we are and yet still be without
sin? (Heb 4
:15)
The answer to that paradox is so simple that it easily qualifies as an
elephant in the middle of the room. Christ was born of both Man and God.
The God side of his birth is stronger than the human side of his birth, and
enabled Jesus to be maxed out with, and totally controlled by, the purity of God.
†. John 3
:34
. . God's Spirit is upon him without measure or limit.
†. Col 1
:19
. . For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in him
It was essential that Christ be born not only of Man but also of God in order
to keep his human nature in check and prevent it from leading Jesus into sin
and thus disqualifying him from the role of the lamb of God that takes away
the sin of the world. Left to himself, I've no doubt Christ would have
eventually done something wrong
; but with all the fullness of God on board,
without measure or limit, and in total control
; he couldn't.
†. 1John 3
:9
. .Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed
remains in him
; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
Lest someone complain that Jesus had an unfair advantage
; let me be quick
to point out that it was extremely crucial that Christ not be left to himself to
maintain a sinless life if he was to be the lamb of God that takes away the
sin of the world. Too much was riding on that issue to leave it up to a man
born with human nature to hold the line on his own.
