In regards to God almighty, people fear him because they fear punishment. They fear punishment because they know that they are sinners. And they do not want to be reminded of this Truth.

This is how everyone starts before being redeemed by Jesus. Those who are redeemed have hope, and love for the one who saved them.

Hmmm. I think the fear is admitting they are sinners because all the dominos flow from there.

To delude oneself for a lifetime, acting as one own's god, one's own lord, only to find out - or be forced to ADMIT - there is an objective standard, a standard not determined or manipulated by you AND you will be judged overthrowing yourself as the judge of the universe? It's beyond humbling. It's humilating for a god to admit he/she is merely a created being. Scary. Scary Stuff.

There may certainly be a fear of losing their assumed power as self proclaimed God's.

But I also believe that the fear of God has been in the world since the fall. Hence, the introduction of sacrifices to appease God in ancient times.
