I think it would help too if people built less flammable houses. Sparks can travel quite a distance, land on buildings and start fires. Using tiles for roofs and stucco for exteriors could help a lot.

Oh we got tough restrictions for building houses in the bush these days in Victoria, the restrictions toughened up after the 2009 Bushfires.

Yeah I noticed they do that a lot in California.

So how did it go, who won the debate?
I don't think many people's minds were changed. I'll be watching the polls to see if fewer people are undecided.

I was amazed when Trump wouldn't outright condemn certain groups. When he said he'd tell the Proud Boys to stand down but stand by sounded like a threat to me.

Clinton was criticized for letting Trump run over her. We can't criticize Biden for that. He asked Trump to shut up.

I think that's what they need in California too -- along with enforcing the law that requires electricity companies to keep the power lines free of trees and the like.

It is pretty smart if you think about it. I expect to see more houses built like that. The fire insurance in some areas is prohibitive -- along with earthquake insurance in some areas, something's got to change.

Trump in my opinion. Bidden wants to shut down the US for Covid, he also had some socialist sounding agendas in my opinion. But it was a total disaster of cross talk and insults.
I waiting to wait and see what happens before the election with Covid. Right now, it seems to springing up again, mostly in red states.

COVID-19 is surging in red states just weeks before the election

Despite President Donald Trump’s repeated insistence that COVID-19 is largely a blue state problem, cases are surging in red states just five weeks before the election.

Twenty-two states are currently seeing increases in cases, including in the Midwest, the Great Plains and some in the South. The biggest spikes in new cases have been in North and South Dakota (scene of the massive Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August), Wisconsin, Utah, Oklahoma and Iowa— all of which voted for Trump in 2016. Among those states, Trump is particularly vulnerable in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Cases nationwide, which have generally been down from July, are now again ticking upward.

The country tallied a troubling 55,000 in a single day Friday — the biggest jump in 24 hours in more than a month.

The Wisconsin Health Department reported 2,817 new cases Saturday — its highest daily total since the pandemic began. South Dakota also experienced its highest daily total — 579 new cases — since the pandemic began.

All you can do is wear a mask and isolate the vulnerable ones. I don't agree with shutdowns.

I think if the people in those red states had been wearing masks more, they wouldn't be having the problems they have now. I can see shutting down a school or business if someone has Covid -- then you test everyone. In a week or so, you know who has it and who doesn't, and you can open up again. When it first hit, we didn't have that option -- but now we do.

Yeah, they had the mask talk in the debate, I've heard a lot of arguments for and against mask wearing, and I think you're right. Masks can reduce the moisture from coughs that are perfect conductors for the virus.

By the way, it looks like Czech Republic is on the rise again, I don't think they did enough though, months ago people were praising them for compulsory maskes and they were just about running things at full scale.

It was a poor comparison to Australia at the time though. Whoever was saying that we should go the same path as them.

I just heard some of the stuff said from the debate on the news, and some of the things said, especially some of the things that came out of Trump's mouth were just rude and mean and could easily be compared to schoolyard bullying.

As a Christian, I think I am sticking to "if I was an American citizen, I would just vote for a minor party."

As for the Democrats, I didn't like this move. Tennessee House rep removed from his party for opposing abortion

And I didn't like this move by Governor Newsom.

Have to say...I'm glad you are not Voting in a US Presidental Election.

Rude, mean, bullying is secular teaching.
Just voting for a minor party, reveals a party association by numbers, carries weight over STANDING on principles and competency.

Would you also secularly call what came Out of Jesus' Mouth...

rude and mean and could easily be compared to schoolyard bullying.

?

Bible, King James Version
Matt.23

[1] Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
[2] Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees...

[4] For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders;

[13] But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
[14] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses,
[15] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
[17] Ye fools and blind:
[19] Ye fools and blind:
[23] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
[24] Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
[25] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! ...within they are full of extortion and excess.
[27] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye ... are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
[28] ...within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
[29] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
[33] Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers...

Glory to God,

I was shocked by the lack of strategy to stop Trump from disruption strategies.
It was down to the producers who wanted to create conflict and drama.

Trump can be defeated by sound bites, well thought through points which are encapsulated in small sentences.
Reporting taxes, historical figures that will not change, just publish them.
Building the wall paid for by the Mexicans, not delivered or deliverable.
Medicare repealed, not achieved.
North Korea, nice photo shop opportunity, nothing more.
Economy no better than under Obama.
Polarised politics, splitting society and demonising the opponents.
Supporting conspiracy stories, wild statements not worthy of any elected official, bleach, chloroquine.
Disaster withdrawal from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria.
Disaster climate change engagement, world leadership, making friends with ones allies
The official revolving door of employees, lasting months at most at the highest posts
Picking fights with government officials who are paid to be objective
Encouraging supporters not to take Covid-19 precautions seriously, threatening lives of 1000's

What all the above shows, is the constraints of being president mean even a nut job cannot do too much harm, other than leave a trail of failed sound bites and exaggerated claims which never come to reality. Worse still for Trump, out of office the prosecutions will change how he is looked at historically. Most politicians would be sunk without trace for any of these failures, so Trump is a unique oddity, where truth is celebrity, I am here so it must all be ok, which is the road of corruption and destruction walked by most dictators. If believers think this is what a good leader looks like and what they want, then that is what they will get. God bless you

But Biden refused to be bullied. Having followed Biden's career for decades, I knew he couldn't be bullied.

One of the funniest moments to me was when Trump started talking about Hunter Biden; and Joe said it wasn't true, and they should be talking about American families, not about his family. Then he added he could talk about Trump's family all night if he wanted. I laughed out loud at that.

As a Christian, I think I am sticking to "if I was an American citizen, I would just vote for a minor party."

The law doesn't change much that I can see. It just means judges would have the same discretion about adding someone to the list of sex offenders they have now with heterosexuals who engage in regular sex with minors.

Ok...do now joe wants to destroy your home and build a new one that you have to pay for.

Good job Biden with the dumbest idea ever.

First time I heard of that, tearing down all of these buildings and homes, and rebuilding....crazy idea. Trump said it would cost 100 Trillion dollars to do that. And he said our country couldn't earn that much in a hundred years.

I thought the President did well in the debate, he didn't seem nervous at all. And he defended himself well. Whereas Biden looked more aged towards the end of it.

The VP debate is on October 7.... I'll be watching.

I don't think the producers thought it would be that bad.

I found it strange that Trump who says he's a law and order guy couldn't obey the rules his campaign agreed to. Maybe he thinks he's above the law? That rules don't apply to him?

You know those electric collars you can buy to put on dogs to train them by giving them a shock when they disobey? I thought maybe in the next debate, the candidates should wear collars like that and let the moderator give them a shock if they broke the rules.

I thought that I might wake up this morning and rethink my position from last night...

Nope...

Joe lost this debate so badly it was embarrassing considering how much he really practiced.
Trump claims he didn't practice...but he needed to do he could get out concise answers clearly instead of saying them backhandedly later in a spit fight with Joe.

And then the damage would be more devastating.

The Democrats this morning are urging Joe to disappear...don't come out of his bunker anymore to spar with Trump. ROFL...
That would be about right...

Both men were silent on misogyny....duh...both men are guilty on that.

In the end

Trump 5 points
Biden 1 point
Wallace got 4 points. One on Trump and 3 on Joe...

When the moderator can score points in a debate... maybe you should rethink your strategy.

Not sure how many people agree with you.

Post-debate CNN poll: Six in 10 say Biden won the debate - CNNPolitics

Six in 10 debate watchers said former Vice President Joe Biden did the best job in Tuesday's debate, and just 28% say President Donald Trump did, according a CNN Poll of debate watchers conducted by SSRS.
It wasn't exactly scientific or designed to be:

About two-thirds said Biden's answers were more truthful than Trump's (65% Biden to 29% Trump), and his attacks on the President were more frequently seen as fair. Overall, 69% called Biden's attacks on Trump fair while just 32% said Trump's attacks were fair.
The survey is designed to be representative of those registered voters who watched Tuesday's debate, it does not represent the views of all Americans.
The voters who watched the debate were more partisan than Americans as a whole -- 36% identified as independents or non-partisans compared with around 40% in the general public, and the group of debate watchers was more Democratic than a typical survey of all adults, with 39% identifying as Democrats and 25% as Republicans.
It was tilted a little in favor of Democrats. The number of people registered as Republicans has been going down, but 25% is still a little low. Maybe more Republicans were watching it on another channel? According to the Hill, 29% of voters are Republicans.

There are fewer registered Republicans than independents for the first time ever

There are now more registered independents than Republicans, marking a first for the U.S.

According to data from Ballot Access News, independents make up 29.09 percent of registered voters, while Republicans make up 28.87 percent and Democrats make up 39.66 percent. The data comes from the 31 states that require registration by party.

Overall it was still fairly representative.

Republicans 28.87 - 25 = -3.87% underrepresented
Democrats 39.66 - 39 = 0.66% overrepresented
Independents 29.09 - 36 = -8.91% underrepresented.

CNN's stats don't say how many were other parties, but they add up to 100%, so they must have included third party people with independents.

It is interesting that 25% of the people in that poll identified as Republicans and 28% thought Trump won. That means they picked up only 3% more than their starting number. There were 40% identifying as Democrats and 60% thought Biden won, an increase of about 20%. I think it shows independent voters are favoring Biden.

That story was practically written before the debate happened...
I predicted that the MSM would declare Joe won no matter what happened.

But in reality when the moderator comes in second place and Joe came in third....come on!
