You can get the answer you want to most polls by just how you frame the question. Its the old 'have you stopped beating your spouse' trick, any answer can be used to make one look bad. So polls can be used for nefarious purposes or to shock people into action, and it seem the latest ones have some of this in the media. You dont have to look hard..
