The gospel is under attack but the sheep shall not heed a word one from the mouth of these people .The without obeying part (no works) confirms a spurious belief. Faith without works is dead. (James 2:14-20)
Of course, the demons continue to obey Satan. Their trust and reliance are in Satan (and not in Jesus Christ) as demonstrated by their rebellion in heaven and continuous evil works. Even though demons are not human, they are still capable of "mental assent" belief.
Show me the word "saved" in verse 13 and I will show you a shallow, temporary belief that has no root, lacks moisture, produces not fruit and withers away. No spiritual life. (Matthew 13:20-21; Mark 4:5-6; Luke 8:6,13)
Speculation. Scripture says - When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. (Matthew 13:21) If they were Christians, then they would not have quickly fallen away, which demonstrates an emotional response to the gospel and a shallow belief.
More speculation. The quality of their believing was the problem. Their heart condition is contrasted with that of the "good ground" hearer in the 4th soil, who's heart was good and honest. Thus, his heart was not "good," being like the soil to which it corresponds, being "shallow" or "rocky," lacking sufficient depth. Such soil represents a sinner not properly prepared in heart. People who "believe" and "rejoice" at the preaching of the gospel without a prepared heart, and without a good and honest heart, and without having root in themselves, do not experience real salvation. Unlike saving belief, temporary, shallow belief is not rooted in a regenerate heart. How can no depth of earth, no root, no moisture, no fruit, represent saving belief? It doesn't.
To the trenches and point to Christ JESUS to the last breath utters out those lungs .
