Weren’t those Ten Commandments just a prelude to the whole law? Are we under the Ten Commandments or Jesus commandments?

both

there are commandments that are part of the eternal moral law

the law of Moses has three parts

moral law:

jurisdictional law:

ceremonial law:

the moral law is eternal, for a baptized (born again believer) Christian to commit a serious theft it would be a sin against God and the seventh commandment!

the jurisdictional law was taken Matt 21:43 from Israel and given to the church in the person of Peter and the apostles and their successors!

the ceremonial law was fulfilled by Christ on the the cross, tithing for example:
Colossians 2:14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Jesus' commandments covers all the old Ten Commandments and more going deeper to our core by His Spirit in us. The Ten Commandments are still alive and well, and sinners will be judged by them. Christians who walk in the Spirit are not under the old laws, because we establish the law, Romans 3:31.
