The bible doesn't tell us that they were kings, or that there were three of them. Also, Matthew tells us that Jesus was anything up to 2 years old when the wise men visited, and he wouldn't have been in the manger:

“Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.” (Mt 2:16 NKJV)

It is a good study.....Tradition and false beliefs can override scripture. Not kings and not wise men and not 3 and not from the orient. The scriptures do not say that the fruit of the tree was an apple. The star of the Nativity was never over the Nativity and it was not a star.

It does not hurt to speculate but it is always good to keep rooted in what the scriptures say and do not say.

Merry Christmas

I agree with some of what you wrote, that is, they are not called kings, we are not told how many, the fruit of the forbidden tree was not an apple, and the star did not appear over Bethlehem at the time Jesus was born. However, the bible does call them wise men, and does say that they came from the east, which means the same as "orient." It does say that the star went before the wise men once they had left Herod's palace, and has the wise men saying, "We have seen His star in the east."

gold frankincense and myrrh

throw this up for discussion what does each of the 3 represent symbolically ? please keep it as Biblically close as possible
Precious friend @Ezra, I found:

"...The star “stood” over where Jesus was now living and they rejoiced. They were excited that they found The
King and were excited about the things of God! They traveled for many months, and God was guiding their
steps. This should cause us to ask ourselves, “Do we get excited and do we rejoice over the things of God?”

Upon arriving, we read,

“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and
fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto
Him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh” (Matt. 2:11).

“These gifts or great treasures” (v. 11) had great value. Gold has been of great value throughout history.
In Genesis 13:2 we read, “And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.” Frankincense was
used to cover the smell of sacrifices (Ex. 30:7, 34-35; Lev. 2:1). Myrrh had a bitter taste (Mk. 15:23) and
was used to embalm the dead as its properties helped preserve the body (Jn. 19:39-40). All three had
great value, and God used these gifts to finance the family’s trip to Egypt (Matt. 2:13-18).

This is a good example of God providing before they even knew they needed it! Today God often
provides for believers in the same way, using members of the Body of Christ to pray and support
each other (Phil. 4:18-19)..." (K Lawson Looking For The King)

Grace and Peace and Merry Christmas...

I know you sturdy the Bible.....You need to look at the scriptures on this.....There is a little bit of a controversy about this.
The scriptures call them and they were Magi. Magi means sorcerers or witches. It is where the word magic and magician comes from. Of course the question is why were they interested in Yeshua? And why did the scriptures say they were from the east and if so.....if they were from the east and saw the star in the east and followed it......LOL they would be going in the wrong direction.

So let's sort this out......The Magi were into the sciences and astrology and astronomy. The lived around Iran (Persia) and Alexandra, Egypt.....a center for the sciences and learning. Now let's put the events in motion. Let's say they were in Alexandra when they saw the light in the sky in the east and they followed it around on land around the Mediterranean Sea. This light moved and changed directions.....first east, then north around the Mediterranean and then west towards Jerusalem. They entered Jerusalem from the east......that is where that statement likely come from....from the east. Then the light turned north again to young Yeshua's home in Nazareth. (Never over the nativity.)

The scriptures call this light a star, but the movements of this light do not describe a star. The scriptures also call meteorites falling to earth stars......Probably where we got the term shooting star from. Either way we know it was a light and they followed it around and it came to rest.

Hi Grailhunter,

You are correct in stating that the star's movements do not describe a star. But God can make anything happen, for example; when The Lord stopped the sun for Joshua, for "a full day". It is not "natural" but it is SUPER-natural. The Lord does as He pleases and our limitations are so not His.

Joshua 10:12-14, "during a battle against the Amorites to give the Israelites more daylight to defeat their enemies, with the sun delaying setting for about a full day. This event, seen as a miraculous extension of daylight, occurred when Joshua prayed, "Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon".

God can make anything happen....yeap
But they had a tendency to call things stars.
Describing things from their prospective.
Like the earth was flat.

when we start 2nd guessing what something is in the Bible. then that is where false teaching comes in.. this is why we have humteen doctrines today if the Bible calls it a start then its a star .. i have read that these wise men knew astrology. i cant prove no or yes. but facts are they had a heads up it was the Christ child .. there is so much mankind dont know.. example How did God plant a male child seed in a virgin young lady ? in the natural it wont work Butt with God all things are possible

good news is a savior is born and yes we should celebrate do we need a tree with decoration and lights ? no but it doesn't hurt. one thing we can say is Christ was probably not born in decimeter. due to the shepherds out in the field . then again what was the weather like in dec in that region? hey i live in Missouri it was 70 degrees Christmas day.. were normally cold in fact today we have the a.c on ITS BEEN LONG TIME THAT HAS HAPPENED IN DEC AND I AM 64
