Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. The following is a portion of the transcript:"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. !"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the N CA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Ca in's heart."In the days that followed the Columbine traged y, I w as amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. Your laws ignore our deepest needs,Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage,You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms,And precious children die.You seek for answers everywhere,And ask the question "Why?"You regulate restrictive laws,Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand,That God is what we need!"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educationalsystems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts."As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine yourown heart before casting the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

Amen! I, a new creature in Christ, attended a concert recently entitled Winter Jam 2008. It had 5 really good bands (Barlow Girl, Skillet, NewSong, Mercy Me, Mandisa) as well as a super preacher/pastor in Tony Nolan who spoke between sets. What impressed me (at 46) was that in a sold out crowd of 18,000 the average age was probably around 15/16. These kids had the fire. Raising hands and voices to the Lord. Every one I encountered or even observed showed love and respect to those around them. While I had a blast at the show, the kids were what impressed me most. Donnie

You know what? He hit the nail on the head: nobody wants to be responcible any longer--- blame the next guy, organization or whatever. When we blame someone, such as the NRA, we are really projecting some of ourselves onto them and being self-righteous about it.I come from the "baby boomer" generation (those born between '46-'64)> We are also known as the hippy generation (at least part of us). It was this generation that rebelled against authority and wanted to redefine their own utopia, only to find themselves later lost and lacking moral direction. Now, as they run the world (they are in government, school administration, etc.) they are baffled why there is no order and chaos is around us. Consequently, they get (what I call) psuedo-puritanical and create a new "get tough" "zero tolerance" and other catch-word morality and have rules more oppressive than the parents they rebelled against. Problem is, I believe this generation was the most spoiled, and brat-like generation having everything given to them after the wars. That's the problem. What that generation needed was a good spanking---- oh yeah, that's child abuse. Forget freedom of religion where the Bible says to use the rod on the child. They know so much more than God, I guess. The whole situation would be funny if it was not so abysmally pathetic.

Only those who have lost a Son or daughter can know this person's pain.God certainly would know this person's pain since his Son was murdered for our crimes .I wonder though why it is people think a student can't pray in school?Because it really is impossable to stop some one talking to God. I also would like to know how many would really feel comfortable having their child lead in prayer by some one not of their faith over a loud speaker or in the class room?

Just because some one is Christian does not mean they believe as another christian who goes to a different church.I certainly would raise a fuss if a non denominational or a person of a different denomination other thanm my own led my children in prayer.thats sort of like giving the nod to any belief is as good as any other belief. even if those beliefs are completly opposite of oof your beliefs.its sorta like saying no denominational is the same as reformed presbyterian and Roman catholic the same as 7th day adventist .well if that was the truth Why are we not all sitting in the same pew on sunday or saturday hearing the same preacher?didnt you know that some preachers now days even have boobs? what if you believed the bible said that was wrong . would you want her leading your child in prayer over the loud speaker?any way i said my peace and perhaps other may think differently .and thats fine just so long as they don't lead my grand children in prayer untill; we agree on what the bibles doctrines really all are.

The speech and poem he gave was truthful and so well written. I can't think of anything in response to it or the pain it came from.

I recently encountered a problem at my child's school. He has obstructive airways disease. Basically he has a lesser form of asthma .So, when he gets a head cold it turns into an upper resp infection that can lead to pneumonia. That is if I do not catch it first. If I can catch it than I give him his medication and let him rest and he will be fine. No prolonged sickness. Well its triggered by just about everything so he misses school alot. I received a letter in the mail stating that if he missed any more school I could do up to 30 days jail time or have probation community service or pay a fine of 100 dollars. I was dumbfounded. He had 7 absences (which I realize is allot ) but come on ! Apparently a letter from a parent is only good 3 times and after that your out of luck. Well I had his pediatrician write a letter explaining his condition but it is unreal that as a parent I am threatened with jail for deciding that my child is to ill for school. ]WHO GAVE THE GOVERNMENT SO MUCH POWER?[

But ya know what? If YOU made the child do something on his free time when he was sick, then you could get arrested for child abuse! But it's OK to send him to school sick, that's not abuse (I say sarcastically). Bottom line: THEY want the control over the family.Like I said earlier, this is the crooked hippy, baby-boomers, and their side-kick x-generation rationale for you. They are so screwed up its not even funny. I don't know why they don't do something more constructive with their time that would really help the world like, go to the bathroom, take tissue and w... I won't say it on a Christian forum. You get the idea.
