“Actor-comedian Billy Crystal said a wave of personal tragedy and devastation shattered his trust in God and permanently altered his faith.

Speaking to correspondent Tracy Smith of CBS Sunday Morning, Crystal said he has abandoned the spiritual conversations he once chronicled in his 2004 Tony-winning one-man show, ‘700 Sundays.’

Asked if he continues to speak to God, Crystal, 78, answered directly, ‘No, because I - I don’t trust him.’

When Smith asked if he was being serious, Crystal replied, ‘Yeah. Too many bad things have happened.’

He added: ‘The earth is in bad shape, this is a weird, scary time. So no, not anymore.’

The stark shift in Crystal’s outlook follows a period of heavy loss. …”

That's sad. I wonder if he truly knew the Lord.

When hard times come I don't know what I'd do without leaning on the Lord to help me get through those times.

The first thing I thought of when I read the story was the similarity of his story with that of Job. It turned out well for Job. Perhaps it will for him.

My second thought was the parable of the sower. His story isn’t over yet but presently it looks like 3.

My third thought was what Jesus said in Matthew 24:13 -

”But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.” (NABRE)

He isn’t persevering at the moment but he still has time to recover. My prayer for him is that he will.
