So the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is based on a request made during the Marian apparitions at Fátima in 1917. According to Sister Lúcia dos Santos, one of the visionaries, the Blessed Virgin Mary requested the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart as a condition for world peace.

Pope Francis consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25, 2022, during a penitential service at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
