Did Jesus Replace God?

Stupid question? Only if we lack the ability to reason a logical end. There are ?Christian? Movements today led by some well known and some not so well known teachers that have, in the near past called down fire and brimstone rain to exterminate the homosexual from our presence. Then we have, in recent history, teachers making poison kool-aid, and all sort of heresy being taught because we have lost our first love!

There is an uncanny movement with two, prominent, fingers. This movement ignores the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount where we find a paragraph telling us that the Law and the words of the Prophets will not pass away until heaven and earth do. (Matt. 5:17-20) The two fingers are the New Testament Christian and the newer, New Covenant Christian. Both of these are misnomers at the very best because without the Bible Jesus taught from there can be no Christianity.

When I went into the Army I went through Basic Training where they laid a foundation to build a soldier on. When I owned my construction company we had to put a classic foundation down before we could begin to build the kitchen, bed-room or bath room. When I worked for Western Electric we placed the foundations on the floor before we could build the racks, bays and supports to hold the switch bays to operate the phones and switch-board. Nothing can stand without a foundation and the foundation of Christianity is the Bible Jesus and the first and second century saints taught from.

This is not a sermon, it's a conversation starter.

I think that many of today's Christians think that Jesus is protecting them from an angry and distant Father. They see that Jesus protects the disobedient.

In truth this belief is the opposite of a Son coming to RECONCILE mankind with the Father.

Good subject!

There is indeed a modern christian movement that, as Epi pointed out, believes that Jesus is there to blind the Father so he doesn't see our sin... No transformation... Just an inflatable Jesus to hide behind!

The Old Testament's purpose is to build said foundation upon which holiness is built. First we must become righteous, rid of selfishness, and all our own ideas, so that when we receive life and power in Christ Jesus we use it for the will of God and not our own.

Christ did not come to destroy the law, but fulfill it! And Paul expands on this, to fulfill it in us, by his power.

Ah! You have touched on one of my favourite subjects, so I'll be as short as possible in what I write here....

The reason for this 'inflatable Jesus to hide behind', is the mixing of Old Testament and Old Covenant clear thinking with unclear thinking about the means of the New Covenant, and the subsequent teachings of the apostles in the New Testament.

There is just one word which 'covers' this confusion. It is the word 'cover'. That Christians are taught - taught - by Christians (!) - that their sins are covered - by the blood of Jesus Christ - is a scandal. And from the misunderstandings by which those teachings arise, also arises the 'inflatable Jesus'.

That's like asking if Jesus replaced Himself since Jesus is God. God is a triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Hi! 'th1b.taylor'

Ummm, there's no such thing as a stupid question ... just lazy ones. This is not one of those lazy ones. :)

Did Jesus REPLACE God? The short answer is: well, not exactly.
Let me explain, please.
God, His Father, made Jesus "Lord and Christ", (Acts 2:36). God personally appointed Jesus and put Him in a position of authority and put His mark on Him, (John 6:27). Therefore, Jesus has obtained the divine mandate to work out and completely manifest His name, "Jesus". The names "Christ" and "Lord" accurately indicate the majestic import and value of Jesus' position of authority. They indicate His unique task and position of authority in God's plan with man, as well as His position of elevated glory in God's Kingdom.

The name "Christ" makes it abundantly clear that Jesus and God cannot be one and the same person. The fact that Jesus is "Christ" indicates that Jesus, as a person, should be distinguished from God. Both Jesus and God have a being of their own; their own personality and their own personal name.

The erroneous thought that Jesus is God serves only to dismiss the total value of His anointment when becoming the "Christ". Jesus is the Son of God, and not God Himself!

The "Christ" is the central figure in the 'Logos'. On the one hand, He is the head of all people, including all the things in heavens and the things on earth. He is the head of the church, (Eph 1:10,22). On the other hand, He is the supporter of all things, the One in whom all things are made complete, (Heb 1:3 & Eph1:23). In fact Jesus, being the "Christ", is the most important person of mankind and with that the most characteristic representative of humankind. He is the human being anointed by God and through whom God desires to reach all people. The One in whom God wants to unite all people to one.

Because of the work of Jesus Christ a kind of mankind comes into being that God has planned before the foundation of the world. A mankind, existing from a countless quantity of individuals, saturated in and filled with one spirit only. A body that has been joined together under one head which constitutes a perfect whole. A faithful church fully prepared and capable of functioning as God's partner for all eternity. And with that, revealing the deepest secret of God.

When the times are complete, God will take the mankind-united-in-Christ as His partner; just like a man who takes someone as his wife. This, after all, was God's original purpose and intent with man. His Word continually goes out to accomplish the reality of God acquiring for Himself a worthy partner for Himself. The ultimate goal of God is that He may be all in all, (1Cor 15:28). All people who, in Christ Jesus, take their place meant by God will have a share in eternal glory and salvation.

In this 'marriage' between God and mankind, God, as Maker takes the position of the husband. He is the only one who can assume this place. He is the only true God, the Ruler of all those lifted up in glory. The female position is personified by mankind. Christ is the head and each individual human being is a member of this body. This forms a harmonious and majestic body, united by God's Spirit.

So Jesus does not take God's place in this intimate relationship between God and man. He remains as head of mankind. He keeps holding the very highest and very predominant and exalted position in the faithful of the living God, Jesus keeps holding the central and most important position. That is the way God has originally meant it to be; that is the way it will be for all eternity.

Hi MTPockets,

How does the last line of your post go along with Paul's statement, below, in 1 Corithians 15?

24 Then [comes] the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father;
when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.

27 For he has put all things under his feet. But when he says all things are put under [him, it is] manifest
that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject to him that
put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Hi MTPockets,

How does the last line of your post go along with Paul's statement, below, in 1 Corithians 15?

24 Then [comes] the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father;

when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

We who are in the flesh, filled with the Holy Spirit of Jesus, is the ONLY Body Jesus has. That is "SON". In scriptures, WE are the Body of Christ. The Son of God.

Each of us, as a "Son of God" (by Christ in us), "Reigns" over sin in us. This is how "sin is conquered" in us. This is HOW we Rule and Reign with Him. Now, while it is called To Day.

But when our flesh taberhacle finally expires, the Kingdom of the "SON" (which is WHO WE ARE) is THEN delivered up! There is no more a "Son" position in us for we then ASCEND into the fulness of "God all in all".

That is what it means :)

No, it isn't a future rapture thing on a calendar or some other modern theology. It is all about "each man in his own order" (as posited in verse 23, same topic of Paul's in 1 Cor 15).

It is simple. We each deliver up the "kingdom" to the Father each in our own time, for remember, "The Kingdom of God is WITHIN you" ! (Luke 17:21)

Peace

Jesus WAS, IS and always WILL be God. Jesus' time on earth was for the Jews, NOT the Gentiles. He had to deal with the verbal law that was being taught by both Pharisees and Sadducees. Conservatives or Liberals if you will. Just as Jesus did not argue with Satan about what God's Word actually said, but used scripture in it's proper context, He did the same thing to the Jews of His day.

Jesus is God with us "Emmanuel". this is for us people so we can understand, as we can not come to know God the Father without his Son Jesus the 'Saviour'.
The Jews OT is a blue print and when Christ came from there on, there is nether Jew or Greek etc as it's finished and Jesus is the lord of all people races. as it's only through him that we have anything because with out him we have nothing. with out him we then have cut our self's off from the vine and we will only go around in circles like a dog chasing it's tail.
Holy Moses tells us that salvation is to come.
Now we have Jews rejecting Holy Moses right back then and they were going to kill him and we have that golden calf mob still with us today. fact is Jesus tels us exactly who they are and Stephen upset them to.

Jesus came and magnified God.John5:30"I can of mine own self do nothing:as i hear,i judge:and my judgement is just;because i seek not mine own will, but the will of the father that sent me."
