Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Matthew 7:12 (NASB)
"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

“In everything”

Putting forth that this is the one rule we should always be judging our behavior towards another person by.

This; when Jesus spoke these words He didn’t equivocate, this was to be a maxim. This was put forth to be alone that standard of measurement of our behavior towards another.

For this standard of measurement is only for one way. This instruction to treat others as we would have them treat us only concerns our behavior towards the other. Not their behavior towards us. We are to trust God in the behavior coming back towards us in all things.

For it is never a issue of how someone treats us. The issue is always how we do the treating. This is the behavior that not only truly blesses the receiver of such a behavior, it is the behavior that most opens the door that God can bless the giver of such a behavior.

This “in everything” and that which follows is to be our standard of measurement of our behavior towards all. It matters not whether we like or don’t like, whether we feel their worthy of receiving such a expression of behavior. The issue put forth is;

“treat people the same way you would want them to treat you”.

If we would not have someone be rude to us, let us not be rude to them. If we would not have someone be short with us, let us not be short with them. If we would not have someone force their will on us, let us not force our wills on them. Let us be doers of this word to treat people as you would have them treat you.

It matters not if they return the behavior. For we are to be a expression of love to all people at all times. For we know not how God is working in that life. For God is always working, drawing some, growing others.

For God’s will is that all men be saved, that all would come to know the knowledge of the truth. This is God’s heart and will towards all. This Heart that gave His only begotten Son that we might live and live in love one towards another. For the fulfillment of the law and the prophets is here in this scripture;

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Let us fulfill the law and the prophets by treating other people like we would have them treat us.

For in this is blessings in the here and now, and great rewards to come.

For what is love, what is righteousness, what is being a peace maker? For such is God’s will in all things.

Amen. This is the basic righteousness requirement that fulfills the second tablet of commandments...to love your neighbour as yourself.

Although this is an OT standard...it is still the right thing to do...and God sees this as doing righteousness.

Of course God has "upped the ante" in the NT whereby we have a new commandment to love as Jesus loved. This is of course a far higher standard. And this is to be done by grace.

Grace is within the law...the truth is like a wheel within a wheel...so then grace (the power to fulfill the law) is WITHIN the law in the form of a living word (rhema) whereas the letter of the law is to the outward man...and he can only fulfill the outer part of it. But not the spiritual part.

When Jesus called Peter out of the boat in order to do the "impossible" ...to walk on water as Jesus was doing...the rhema (living) word from Jesus had the power in it (grace) to fulfill it. So Peter was able to fulfill the command of Jesus. Had he tried on his own to do it he would have failed...definitely. So then grace is contained INSIDE the law (not outside of it)...in order to give us the power to fulfill it when we are commanded directly by God.

So then to love others as ourselves...is still within our own capacity..an OT standard.

But the NT standard is impossible unless we are called to it by God. The deadness of the letter or just knowing of the higher calling does not give us the grace to fulfill it. We need to ask God for His grace rather than claim or try to do things from our own strength or faith.

No, we need a word from God. DIRECTLY from God. THAT is the NT standard that produces a NT faith. To be able to walk on water as Peter did as He heard Jesus calling Him to do it.

And that is the famine that has spread over the land ...a famine from hearing the words (living) from the Lord. And this in time of a multiplication of written words (bible) but that has unfortunately replaced actually seeking of His words directed specifically towards us.

The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The outer man can fulfill the outer part of the law. That is righteousness. But to fulfill the inner part one needs grace strengthening the inner man since the law is spiritual. That is holiness.

Man can fulfill the OT Law on his own? The whole point of the law was that this is not so. That is why the Law only condemns.

Peter obeyed Jesus personal command to Peter, and Peter found that he could walk on water. This is the meaning in Paul's words that even not living as under the law he is still not lawless, but under the law of Christ.

Being under the law of Christ is not the same as being under the Sinai covenant, as Paul's words demonstrate.

Much love!

It is such a awesome thing to know that it is;

“access by faith into the grace wherein we stand”

On this part, Do you include Bible reading as hearing directly from God?

Actually, as I revisit the post, I see your answer here:

And that is the famine that has spread over the land ...a famine from hearing the words (living) from the Lord. And this in time of a multiplication of written words (bible) but that has unfortunately replaced actually seeking of His words directed specifically towards us.

So no, the Bible is not God's direct word to you.

So we are to all put down our Bibles, and start just listening for whatever we may hear. So how do you know that what you hear is right? If you can't check it against an outside source? Outside of your own mind, that is?

People can hear all sorts of things, see all sorts of things, how can you actually know what you believe you are receiving is correct?

Much love!

Well put, but what if someone comes along and treats you better than you would treat them? What if they treat you better than you would have them treat you? Isn't this what Christ did? Isn't this what Christ suggested? Isn't this an abrogation of the golden rule? Christ says to treat others as he treats you. That is simply beyond one's own ability. Therefore it is impossible to do without the faith of Christ.

In other words, this isn't about how you treat others, it's about how Christ is manifested in the world. Do we see Christ when we're cut off in traffic, or cut down by some troll on the internet? Do we see Christ in the temple, or do we see only the imposters?
