From Quora:
"Let’s go to the Bible and find out the condition of the dead. Psalms 146:4 says “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to the earth in that very day his thoughts perish.” In Ecclesiastes 9:5–6+10 says “The living know they will die but the dead know nothing at all neither do they have anymore reward because all memory of them is forgotten. Also their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun. Whatever your hands find todo, do with all your might for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the grave where you are going.” So the Bible says the dead are in an unconscious state unaware of everything around them. In Genesis 3:19 God said to Adam after he had sinned, “from dust you are and to dust you will return.” He didn’t say you’re going to heaven or hell, just back to the ground. When Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead, he didn’t bring him from heaven or hell. He resurrected him from the dead back to life. In John 5:28–29 and Acts 24:15 sys “there’s going to be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.” They will all be resurrected back to earth like Lazarus was. There are a select few, 144,000. (Revelation 14:1) who will go to heaven to rule with Jesus all those who are living on the earth. Revelation 5:10 says “And you made them to be a kingdom and priest to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.” We pray for that kingdom to come in the Lord’s Prayer. Matthew 6:10. Through that kingdom arrangement we’ll see the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry or pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” We know these conditions will be here on earth because there’s no pain or death in heaven. So our loved ones will remember us when they are resurrected."

It's a variety of how could you be happy in heaven knowing 'X' is suffering in hell.

Our status in heaven is not dependent upon the well being of our loved ones.
I thin, from the parable of the rich man and the bigger, we will remember er our loved ones, but we will also be in the presence of someone so wonderful that they will overwhelm our concerns.

Didn't Jesus tell the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise that day? Did Jesus make an exception for him?

Faithfully I would say, yes. It seems there was saints who were beheaded requesting justice to be served somewhere in revelation. If that is the case, perhaps you have even loved members praying for you to be helped by the Holy Spirit to make it through this life faithfully looking to Lord God Almighty, who could say for sure, it’s always faith.

Jesus defeated death on the Cross. He also set the captives free. So, the new covenant with Jesus defeated the Old Testament Mosiac law. Christians are now Free in Christ. Absent from the body, present with Christ.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 was true but was invalidated when Jesus was sacrificed, or so I understand.

I've not seen any evidence that my departed loved ones can hear me or see me. Is there some reason I should assume that they do?

There is a debate as to whether or not a simple punctuation mistake in that verse:
This thread is written by a different person which I had cited/quoted.

I'm not sure how I stand one way or another but it is interesting.

Luke 23: 43

"And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (All bold is mine)

And Jesus replied, " I assure you today, you will be with me in paradise"

I always believe to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord as Paul said.

My 94 year old mom passed away this year June 21, so that verse is a great comfort to me.
And it is a verse I hold on to for myself.

The King James Bible makes it clearer. As the way Jesus often spoke.

Luke 23:43 - And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

There always a coma after an introductory statement to a sentence, before the subject.
Example:
Hey you over there today, you will be with me in paradise. When?
Hey you over there, today you will be with me in paradise.

Along with such a belief that there are relatives enjoying heaven, is the assumption they are doing so without bodies. They don't have the bodies they died with, they're in the grave. They don't have spiritual bodies, because they don't receive them until the resurrection . And I see no evidence in scripture that there is any other state of existence without a body of some sort... even God is described as having a body after which we were fashioned. You might suggest they are spirits... so they are breaths of air floating around without any means by which to communicate, see, hear, touch, or think? I think it far easier, more biblical, and more reasonable to accept that the only people in heaven today are those previously resurrected. That isn't many. Moses. Jesus. A few at the time of the resurrection and seen by witnesses in Jerusalem. Lazarus? That's an interesting case. Did he die twice? Not sure. And then there's Elijah and Enoch. As far as biblical evidence is concerned, that's it. Unless of course you are relying on Greek philosophy to interpret scripture. Then anything is possible.
Personally, I would be horrified to learn my late mother, father, brother, grandson, and numerous aunties and uncles and cousins etc etc were gazing over the walls of heaven and watching everything I do and say. How could our trials and difficulties bring joy to any of them?

I suppose another consideration is the possibility that time is perceived differently. For example, is it possible that, for those in Heaven, their separation from us is just a mere number of seconds while the years pass on Earth?

My parents did that and my uncle. My reply was "Jesus has long hair in all the pictures I see". Never heard another word.
That's funny although I doubt that Jesus had long hair. By the way, my hair isn't long, just a mess when it's not short.

Show any picture of Jesus, that men have made, and you'll see long hair. The Shroud of Turin is Jesus, and he had long hair. Jesus has come to me in visions, and He has long hair, past His shoulders.

He definitely wasn't beautiful by any means of the flesh. Painted pictures are just idols (to some degree or fashion.) Our flesh is not what is important. It's reaping to the spiritual things in this life before we die.

Do you think that people in Heaven miss their loved ones still on Earth?

First of all….People do not go to Heaven…
Rather “saved souls and quickened spirits” depart out of dead body’s and rise up to heaven.

A person is a living human with its soul in its body.

Miss their loved ones still on Earth?
I would say no.

IMO…it is a sorrowful feeling to miss a loved one…I don’t believe Heaven is a place where sorrow exists.

God Bless you

Glory to God,
