People had different opinions months ago, but do you guys now think it was maybe a mistake? It does seem that on social media such as X and news websites, many people are saying now it was a huge mistake, or at least they should have waited afterwards or something, and these are from MAGA Republican voters.

Some people argue that the US should have done more, others say it should have done less, but either way in how it was handled and worked out, it seems that there was lots to be asked for.

VP JD Vance and Don Trump Jr are both blaming the Iran war more or less for costing the Republicans the midterm elections enormously.

Some prominent conservative commentators like Matt Walsh, Megyn Kelly and Thomas Massie seem to be blaming Republicans for the war now also.

And even the President is saying aid to Israel should now be ended:

Trump agrees with Vance but also says that he would do it again if he had to. But do you agree or disagree with them now? Do you think without the Iran war, things could have maybe gone much more differently?

Personally I think it was a bad mistake, primarily because he campaigned on not getting us involved in protracted wars; but he did anyway and Republicans in Congress went along for the ride with him. They enabled him and that's why they got voted out. There was no pressing need to attack Iran; Trump's justification that a nuclear attack was imminent doesn't pass the smell test. Once he started the war, his handling of it has been atrocious, so there's that too.

Mr Trump has been untrustworthy from the beginning. What stood out to me was that he lied regularly. Now you might think I am biased politically but I am apolitical, I am not aligned with any side. I do however recognise a liar. Was the Iran war a mistake? It was worse than a mistake!

Thank you for the post.

The purpose of the war was to deny Iran a nuclear weapon. Remember it did not take that long for our military to eliminate their navy and air force. President Trump assumed that Iran would surrender, given the end of most of their military. He did not realize that those in power were fanatics and willing to die first.

Iran still had a huge supply of drones and missile hidden, with which to strike anywhere in the Middle East, and more importantly, they could close the Strait of Hormuz and inflict economic pain on the whole world.

President Trump refused to commit troops on the ground (review WWII conquest of Okinawa for what would have transpired), but the siege of Iran did not, has not, accomplished capitulation. Iran has threatened tankers in the Strait just enough to curtail oil shipments. Until Middle East oil producers can avoid the Strait, not much will change.

In WWII, Americans suffered far worse economic hardships, but continued to back the Administration. Today, we are not made of such tough stuff.

Peace.

The IRGC slaughtered 70,000 protesters in the streets.
They begged for help to be free from tyranny.

Yes, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon to threaten the world with.
And Trump always keeps his promises.

People have short memories.
