Why celebrating your birthdays is so important? That's not biblical:rolleyes:. People here are picking on celebrating Christmas and Easter:eek: and still remembering their own birthdays for sure.[IMG] Where does it say in the Bible to celebrate your birthday or make big thing out of it?

Christmas and Easter are celebrations that the LORD God commanded the Israelites to keep. They reflect the truth about Christ as the sacrificial Lamb and how Gods people saved by obeying what he told them about the blood of the lamb on their door posts. Christ is also the light of the world and christmas the time when the Jews also celebrating near that time the festival of light. Jesus actually being born in the Hebrew 7th month which runs mid september to mid October. Christ born around October. The reason there is a mixed-reaction to these seasons is clearly about the teachings of the temple. The changing to the festivals. But then the truth is we are not commanded to keep any of these as festivals but wait are we?The Lord says to the Disciples. Do this as oft as ye shall drink it in rememberance of me. Is Christ teaching about keeping the passover and the new covenant he has instigated. Jesus also says he is one with God.Ezekiel 28:2 (King James Version)2.Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:Jesus Christ said he was the Son of God and that the Father God had sent him. You need to be careful when you listen and follow what men are teaching. Because men will use the the bible to try and say false things about Gods Messiah. The wait on the new Temple in Jerusalem being built in even in times of trouble and the street. Christ clearly taught our bodies were the true temple of God.Do we have a living faith with God to teach us or are we buffeted by the different teachings of men?Acts 10:34-45. What did Peter show to be the truth and only way to be saved? A gentile would not be required to keep the passover so where does a believer fit this is not the teaching of Christ to do as oft as ye shall drink it in rememberance of him?Man has tried to change the teachings about keeping the special days we observe before God. Christ said, " If you love me, you will keep my commandments." 1. Love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, mind, body, soul and strength. 2. Love thy neighbour as thyself. In his first commandment Jesus is not saying, love me and your loving God.He is saying, Love God because it shows you love me if you do.The children of God can see that the whole point of the original festivals were the paving of the way for the final covenant and restoration of man to God in Jesus Christ.John 1:12-14. 12.But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13.Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14.And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Christ said everything written about him in the books of the Prophets and psalms had come to pass. The final sacrifice once and for all for mankind. It is your ability to remain and walk in the truth, so receive the Spirit and live as a child of God, that is what really decides who you are in Christ and the Father, made one in the Spirit.Your rock is Jesus Christ not man. So forget the teachings about Holy Days.Listen to what Christ teaches us. The Kingdom is built on love and not of this world. Make sure your heart is right and your life built in Christ. This way if you let the Spirit teach you, you will remain in truth and love before God.Faithful.[IMG]

Why stop there? Wedding Anniversaries, graduation day, May Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, wedding reception (Canon feast probably supports this one), bridal showers, baby showers, house warming parties, homecoming celebrations (of all kinds), award banquets (of all kinds), ground breaking, family reunions, Superbowl party (sorry guys), victory march/celebrations (all kinds), memorials (of all kinds), block/neighborhood parties, company picnics, Boy/Girl Scout banquets, Prom night, ….etc. By this logic should not all these things be bad also? And why just focus on days or parties. Where does the Bible say I should brush my teeth daily, shower regularly or exercise? Where does it tell me it is ok to fly on planes or walk on the moon? Where does it say it is ok to take my picture or talk on the phone? Should I walk on the right or left? Are sneakers ok to wear? Not to put my tongue on a very cold metal?

I have no problems bringing gospel to those people who celebrate Easter or Christmas, whatever reason, yes it's pagan origin, let's make lemonade out of lemons. I'm not celebrating those times, but people have made a huge thing about it and then they celebrate their own or others birthdays, which is SO FINE for them. I'm talking about Christians here.In any case I would rather celebrate the birth of Jesus and even shout loud that He is your saviour from hell. I'm not interested in peoples' birthdays really. For children it's nice though, which I understand.

I see no reason why people celebrate Easter which is a pagan holiday. Christ is our Passover Lamb, Bible says nothing whatsoever about Easter being the Lord's resurrection...JagLovest thou in Christ Yahshua, Lord and Saviour of the world.

Ok, so we should have bad teeth, smell bad and have no tongue.Suppose we can't use TP either or the commode for that matter. That could work in the country, but am not sure how people in the city are suppose to take care of such matters. Interesting theology thunder1. Tell me how do you run your computer to access this web site, as surely electricity and the computer itself are not biblical either?

Y'all are killin' me!! You are too funny, Dr. B. I think this thread is one of the most funny things I've read. I don't see the big deal in celebrating anything with Jesus as the focus. Christmas celebrates His birth for Christians. Easter celebrates His death, burial, and resurrection. It's quite a powerful time of remembrance in my church. I think we need a special time of reflection of these things each year. If we do it too often it will become mundane. If we never do it, we will forget the details if we don't stay in our Bibles. Also, we couldn't celebrate together in a worship experience. It's about what you put the focus on; not the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. Now, about the birthday thing, read Psalm 139 or Jeremiah 1. God ordained our birth and the number of days we would have on earth. I think to celebrate each year is thanking God for giving us another year with family and friends. We acknowledge that He has kept us safe and lead us the way in which He has planned. After all, if the Lord didn't want us to have another birthday, we wouldn't be here, right? Some people even celebrate their "spiritual" birthdays, so I think it's all good, done with the proper focus; to glorify the Lord.

Where does it tell me it is ok to fly on planes?
2 Kings 2:11As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. If it was Ok for Elijah to ascend into the skies in a fiery chariot then I guess it's Ok for me.Same as I can go underwater in a submarine because Jonah did it in the belly of a big fish.We just have to use our imaginations a bit. Christmas and Easter are celebrations that the LORD God commanded the Israelites to keep.
    When? (Faithful;39946)
Your rock is Jesus Christ not man. So forget the teachings about Holy Days.Listen to what Christ teaches us.
I feel you have that mixed up... The Lord taught the Holy Days (the feasts). Man is the one that created what you're implying the Lord commanded to be kept. If you're going to support Christ as the rock and man's teachings as to be forgotten, I think you're on the wrong side of the fence. You should be supporting the Law and Prophets of the Old Testament, which includes honoring His system, not the world's system of the holidays we all know of (the aforementioned Christmas and Easter). Christ Himself implies that we're greater in God's kingdom as we teach and live by His system, and lesser if we ignore it (Matthew 5:17-20). On the other hand, according to 1 Corinthians 10:23-24, our guideline of what we do should be doing is based on what is good for others, not what's "right and wrong". I totally agree with what you said Faithful; that "the Kingdom is built on love". I think our part of that love though is knowing how the Lord wants to be worshiped. I don't believe He wants us to practice traditions that are rooted in paganism, and use them to worship Him (Deut. 12:30). As for birthdays, I've heard they're also rooted in paganism, but I don't see any harm in celebrating them anyway. The command was to not worship the Lord how pagans worship their gods (Deut. 12:30). As long as the traditions of a birthday aren't my attempt to worship God, I hope I'm safe... because celebrating a birthday is just a time to honor a person, not God.

You know, you can carry things too far, or if you want to truly be consistent, think about this. To avoid any form of supporting paganism, you would have to avoid all stores not owned by Christians; same for gas stations, products made by companies that support non-Christian agendas like gay rights and abortion. The list could never end. I think the Lord looks at your heart and sees your motive behind worshipping Him(1 Samuel 16:7). I certainly don't think He condemns us for celebrating these things (Romans 8:1). Not everyone celebrates themselves on their birthdays. Some people enjoy a family gathering on these days as the family may love to show their appreciation to someone. We need to have an abundant, joyful life; not enslaved by a heavy yoke we cannot bear.

We're not to worship the Lord how pagans worshiped flase gods. That's not about "supporting paganism", but about practicing paganism and calling it an act of worship for The Lord. I agree with your point; it'd be nearly impossible in any culture to completely avoid supporting things linked to pagan beliefs. I don't think God has a problem with that though. The Lord looks at the heart. Right on. To me, these things aren't about any issues of condemnation by God, but simply of the smart choice to set our hearts on the things Christ taught we should set our hearts on. In light of the reference to Romans 8:1, I'd say that man's traditions are walking the way of the flesh. Meanwhile, the way of the spirit is based on Christ and what He came to do. I think a sincere heart for that will lead to wanting to worship God the way He told us to, not in our own way that sounds good enough for us (usually only because we enjoy it). Doesn't that description sound fleshy in itself? Where's the God-fearing love for Christ in that? Perhaps there's no condemnation for practicing pagan traditions to honor God, but I don't know where our hearts are at in doing so if we trade those traditions for the ones He gave us to practice to glorify Christ. If the Lord looks at my heart and only sees a selfish desire to follow a tradition instead of Him, I think I better start changing my model of reality to match His. Christ promises a level of eternal greatness linked to our standard of living by and teaching the laws and prophets of the Old Testament (again Matthew 5:17-20).

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe we are commanded by Christ to only celebrate His death (Communion) and (Passover) Easter, I don"t recall Him saying celebrate my birth, We do so out of love to show our appreciation for what He has done for us, and to show love for others by giving gifts to them I believe celebrating our personal birthdays and those in our family is a man made concept...God Bless...Ray
