You have to look at Hebrews 4:3, and see that you were chosen before the foundation of the world to enter the rest of God. This is another place (also Ephesians 1:4) you can read and see what took place before the foundation of the world. These verses are most powerful because it all happens before the foundation of the world. Creator God new when he created a world this is my plan. The plan and purpose of creation is written throughout scripture - you must know what happened before the foundation of the world or you keep trying to make it work. Believers try to make it work out by their doing and it is already finished, complete before the foundation of the world.

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, - 1 Peter 1:20.
We can miss the rest by just not knowing it was all planned before the foundation of the world. As the church in the wilderness was in disobedience, we get in the same mode. What is so difficult is, trying to put life together when you don't know the plan. And also when the plan came about - and knowing it is all an act of God. Something he did and is doing in and through creation now. We don't want to miss it because it is the plan of God 'before the foundation of the world'. Great is the joy of the believer who moves in God.
If you stand on the fact - I believe just like granddad - this is our way of life and what we have always believed - I know enough to get me to heaven - just holding on waiting for the rapture - you are missing the point of creation.
The point is; before the foundation of the world - there is/was a plan and purpose in creating a world where the father could birth his own children like unto His only begotten Son. Hallelujah!
