Experience is the "college of Life".
We learn by doing.
The hard way to learn is to learn by suffering, but that lesson learned, will usually last for life.
Humans tend to make the same mistake again, till suffering teaches them to stop making that mistake.
One of the hardest verses in the bible, to realize, is......"if you suffer for doing RIGHT, then this is acceptable with God".
You have to be careful with that verse, as it can create you to have a Martyr complex.
One of the amazing verses in the Bible is...>"Christ learned obedience .... by the things He Suffered"..
