We all know how faith alone without works is dead, and so is not justified by Christ, and it is the same for doing works of the law alone without faith: it is not justified by Christ.
When it comes to faith alone, being dead without works, no one has suggested all faith is dead and doing away with faith. Why then do people declare the law dead and gone, when Scripture also rebukes the works of the law alone, being unjustiifed without faith?
Neither faith nor the law alone is evil, but only unjustified by Christ.
The reformation of Christ is to bring spiritual purity to them keeping the law, and to bring deliverance for those transgressing the law.
The law of Moses was kept outwardly in the flesh only, but the law of Christ must first be kept inwardly in the spirit, that both the spirit and the flesh may be clean:
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
