there are quite a few different types of fasting, according to the bible, or according to what you practice based on denomination. There are denominations for whom fasting is a yearly act of giving up one thing (usually food) so as to abide by rules of their denomination. there is simply not eating, water may be permitted, so as to be like Jesus in his 40 days of fasting and prayer, but this does not continue for a full 40 days usually just a week. and then there is fasting for reasons of faith. If you are having trouble with something really dear to you and everything is just out of control, you can simply pray and read and not focus on wants (for nothing is truly a need but God and his mercy). Usually this is all done to grow closer to God or to seriously spend time with him and not be so caught up in the things of the world.Hope this helps I'm new here so I'm still getting comfortable and trying to adjust

There is ONLY ONE!!!!! The ONLY way to fast is by NOT Eating Nor Drinking whatsoever! The length of time can vary, however. Jesus fasted 40 days and nights. Moses did not Eat Nor Drink when he was up in/on the Mount getting the "commandments:" from God. To win battles in the OT, some people fasted for half-a-day ant etc.Remember the Queen Esther???!!!(The Movie "One Night With the King" did not do this account justice at all!!!!) She said this:Esther 4:16 - Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. *****SO, The truth is that there are many different kinds of "inventions" that mankind (flesh) have "come up with", with respect to fasting, that ARE NOT "biblically-based!" All that this is doing is "giving occasion" to the flesh (letting the Flesh RULE/take control), which is the exact "opposite" of one of the most important "principles" of Living for God....which is the principle of "crucifying the flesh!!!!" And BOY, that flesh just loooooovvvvvvees to EAT/DRINK (BE FED):naughty: !Example: What people commonly refer to as the "DANIEL fast" is NOT REALLY a fast at all! It was a sort of "challenge", if you will, as well as DANIEL and The HEBREW boys "standing up for Holiness" (because they DID NOT want the KING's Meat/food (food which most likely was forbidden under Jewish customs):naughty: !!!!! So, in others Words....ALL these other "fasts" that people have invented are just "prime examples" of Satan's attempts at using mankind to manipulate/change the the "INCORRUPTIBLE" Word of God!!! ******There's ONLY One Kind, and that's the RIGHT KIND (No Food or DRink)! With Love Arena

Jesus Questioned About Fasting 33They said to him, "John's disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking." 34Jesus answered, "Can you make the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with themJesus is with us always after the death on the cross fasting is not required ask and you shall recieve. If you would like to fast as show of reverance the degree and lenghth is up to you. God would rather you spent your time repenting and in prayer talk to him as your father. Would you require your child to fast before coming to open his heart up to you? Your father loves you he is interested in the stateof your soul. You are saved by Grace, your works are the clothing of your soul. You are not saved by fasting.

This is JUST LIKE SATAN!!!! Remember when God reveals "TRUTH", here comes "old slooth-foot".....(lol)....To God Be ALL the Glory!!!!If fasting is not important, WHY did SATAN try to tempt Jesus (God in the flesh) to turn a STONE into BREAD, and Jesus ReBUKED him with the WorD of GOD?????????:bible: :study: Matthew 4:1-4(KJV)1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.Jesus WAS/IS an example, so that means we should do EXACTLY as He did! And guess what, He FASTED........As long as Jesus (the BRIDEGROOM) was here on earth walking amongst us teaching us and etc, people did not have to fast, but now we have the HOLY GHOST which can ONLY BE FED/STRENGTHENED BY FASTING, PRAYER, READING,STUDYING GOD'S WORD, SEEKING GOD FOR ALL TRUTH!!!!!!With Love,Arena

All this was before the death on the cross I did not say there was anything wrong with prayer and fasting I only said there is no rule of how to fast and honor God he knows your heart. He is more concerned with the repenting of your sins than fasting. We are saved by Grace

Matthew 25:6-13 (KJV)6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. ****Jesus ISthe Bridegroom..)!**** Matthew 9:14-15(KJV)14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? 15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. God's Word Also Says this:1Peter 2:21 - For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: So, did Jesus fast? Yes, so we should do the same! The proper way to fast is all addressed in His Word.Matthew 9:14-15(KJV)14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? 15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. *********Mourning, thats when we feel the loss of a loved one, right?....and often long to be with...have contact with...but can't (well, in this life anyway), right?*****Fasting allows us to "get in touch" ...commun with God on a spiritual level, because flesh does not desire the things of God...it seeks to please itself..therefore it will do all that it can to hinder such communication...... hence the importance of fasting!!!!!!Romans 7:14-25 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow F26 not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. :naughty: That ole' flesh......Romans 8:5-9 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.So, if we want to grow in God...We NEED to Fast! With Love,Arena

So, if we want to grow in God...We NEED to Fast!(quote)No, we must pray the fasting is optional not required and no where does it say fasting is. It is a personal decision. So in your way of thinking if someone had a health problem say diabetes and had to eat they arent as Godly as the person who fasts? Thats baloney Its the time in Prayer to God and whats in your heart/mind has not a thing to do with fasting. I say again we are saved by Grace Fasting is a personal choice to honor God if you choose. It dosent make you any closer to God than some one who spends the same amont and degree of time in prayer.

Arena,So how often do you fast? How long without water? How about people who have to eat for medication. ( I have to eat for my medication every day.)

One should fast whenever God leads them to do so (...if one Truly has the Spirit of God in Him/Her.....he/she will fast). One shouldn't eat or drink at all, when fasting. Remember Moses was i the mount 40 days and nights with no food or drink (including no water) so, God sustains a person when they are fasting. In Matthew 6:16-18, Jesus says this on "How to Fast":Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou when thou fastest, anoint thine head with oil, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.***If you're not used to it, then you should start off small...like few hours, and as you grow in God...you will be able to fast longer lengths of time when God requires it! You speak of your medication. It is VERY important that you believe that God is your sustainer! If He wishes us to fast (which He does), you have to believe within yourself that when you are doing something for God, nothing else matters and He WILL KEEP YOU (PRESERVE YOU) because you seek to obey Him. We should NOT let the infirmities of Flesh hinder us from doing God's Will! God IS GREATER than the the World and our flesh!!!Jesus Heals, Too! Remember that sickness and disease are not "of God" because he died for us because with His stripes we Are Healed. God allows satan to afflict people with disease so that God's Glory can be shown because HE IS A HEALER!Also, Remember, what ever happens in the "spiritual" world affects the "physical" one. So, by strengthening your spirit with fasting, your body HAS TO benefit! So, therefore when we reach higher "spiritual heights" with Christ (through fasting which crucifies the flesh because it just wants to eat and eat and eat.....), everything else MUST fall in line...this includes OUR FLESH and everthing else! With Love,Arena

I found some NT scriptures on fasting for you (after Christ death on the Cross).Acts 14:23And when they had ordained them elders in every church and had prayed with fasting they commended them to the Lord on whom they believed.I Corinthians 7:5Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.II Corinthians 6:4-6But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions,in necessities, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; by pureness....."II Corinthians 11:27 (Paul says this about himself)In weariness and painfulnes, in watching often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.(KJV)With Love,Arena

You are arguing the wrong point. I agree fasting is in the Bible I also see no problem with it. It is a personal choice. You are reading words into scripture that are not there you are stating things as fact that are your opinionThe only fact we are told is not to do it to impress people. Thus should you do so do it for God alone so that no one knows what you are doing. You are trying to say you have to fast:" So,we can grow in God...We NEED to Fast!" that is a twisting of scripture and no where does scripture say this its your opinion. It is a personal choice and anyone who doesnt fast and seeks God will grow in God as fast as someone that chooses to fast. You dont need to point scripture out to me unless you find where it says fasting is the preferred way to God.You can have any opinion you want about it but stop trying to tell others it is biblical that to grow in God fasting is necessary. If your going to make the statement make it your own because it is not Gods Word.

Luk 5:33 ΒΆ And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise [the disciples] of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? Luk 5:34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? Luk 5:35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. Who was he talking about? The deciples. Who would pray and fast and morn. In those days How do you get this means we all have to fast to get a better knowledge of God thats not what it says It says the aspostles would fast when he was gone. For you to take this to a level of claiming all must fast it doesnt even say the apostles must fast it says they would. We already know they prayed and fasted. You are reading something into this that is not there

Well I have deleted your last rude remarks obviously you would rather throw insults than answer the question. As seeing what Gods word really says disagrees with your opinion.
