Is it dug out by hand? I heard the gravel and dirt in the well is typically around 19" deep. I know one company who has done great work for a friend in regard to egress window drainage and drains in the yard, adding dirt around the foundation etc.. but they are booked up for 2 weeks.
I guess you have weight the cost of you getting a company from further out of town, even a family company...especially if time is precious and you know that another dumping of rain will prove costly....

We used to have basement window egress wells in the house in Montana. And fortunately only snow concerns...

Please pray for my wife and I. On July 1st it rained like 5-6 inches in 3-4 hours and our basement flooded. This was not an isolated incident in my community and we could only find one person who could get to us and have an estimate by the next day and repair the damages within a reasonable amount of time. Please pray the costs to repair the damages is not too bad and that this does not happen again. We have more storms coming over the next 3 days.
Sorry to hear that. Praying.

The plastic covered homemade covers are surrounded by sand bags so although helpful not a permanent fix. They do prevent direct rain from coming in through the main opening. The backyard slightly slopes towards the back of the house and water though limited will still find a way in until better drainage is established.

Retired plumber here. It sounds like you need a french drain installed. There isnt really all that much to it as far as expertise is concerned, it's mostly just a lot of expensive labor.

But if you wanted to do the labor yourself, I could walk you through the process of doing it.
IThe water comes in the back wall? So you dig up all along along the foundation outside about 4 ft deep all along the foundation of the house. Lower than ground level in the window wellsand you put down a bed about 4 inches deep of large gravel and lay the french drain pipe (The stuff with holes already in it!) and run it from one end of the house to the other end, starting high and giving it grade for drainage and at the far end of the house you sink a sump pump pit into it and dump the pipe into the sump pit. The sump pit top falls out at ground level. And it's underneath the windowwells so the water level never rises to ground level. Then you top off the pipe with another 6 or 8 inches of large gravel and back fill the ditch.

But! After you dig it but Before you start running gravel and pipe, you seal the foundation wall with black sealant. Then do the pipe and back fill. I used to charge people 5 to 7 thousand dollars for this type job, so your labor will be well spent! Hope you have Boys to help you!

Oh and you would have to use pvc pipe to pump the water way out into the yard somewhere too. Only rarely did we have to install a concrete culvert too, but that's possible to get it out to the street or whereever.

I know a landscaper who will bring in 8,000 lbs of dirt and along with sod and run it across the back of my foundation, raising the ground level up 6 inches and slanting it away from the house. He will add extensions to raise up the sides of the egress window wells and also install a type of irrigation box with a pipe under ground to channel the water from the lowest point of the backyard to the side of the house where is follows a trench between my house and the next door neighbors house that leads to the front yard and street. He just can't get to me until next week.

Rain in the forecast today but thankfully most of it is north of us. Chance of rain overnight but only like 30%. You still never know which is why I keep praying. Our basement is dry and the guys who supplied the fans and dehumidifiers along with checking behind the baseboards and wall are coming back tomorrow to collect their equipment. Supposedly no more rain for the rest of next week. Thank God! Once we get our backyard taken care of we should be good to go.

I bid on that job once. They went with the landscaper too and that's exactly what he did and it did help somewhat, he had less water in the basement. We did the French Drain the following summer, lol.

I think doing it with dirt depends on how much water you get in the basement to if you can stop it with dirt alone. Good luck with it whichever way you go.

Thanks. The key is to channel the water away from the back of the house and prevent it from settling there with nowhere to go. We never had trouble with water in the basement until we recently got torrential rains. Back to back storms with multiple inches. It was unreal! Around record rainfall amounts in a short time. The landscaper mentioned a french drain and said its more expensive but sounded very confident with his solution to the problem. He previously did work for my neighbor who was very satisfied with his services.

What's the latest Dan? Have a plan and already being works? ...French drain can work of course if you the right terrain, soil, subsurface and the size of the area to ward off excessive water is suitable....best to rid the water near the house before it can build up....

Talked to a guy today who was associated with the waterproofing side of things when our house was built. He said he would take care of the dirt, gravel and drain in the window wells and he even talked about a french drain in the yard. Maybe he is cheaper than the other guy. He will get back to me later with a price. Said he could start on Friday and if not then Monday. My wife and I are tired of the waiting game with everyone.

Yeah. I can image waiting to get going on the fix. I would check on this person in a few days. If he sounds indifferent and non-enthusiastic I would go and get another quote.
