The only intention God ever had for a believer was to give up their old way of doing things, their old man so to say. It is not the old man because the old man is dead crucified, but it is the mind that will need to understand yielding to the Christ in you. The old way of doing things is what is referred to as the old man syndrome, it is not the old man but the mind acting out of the knowledge it has of the old man or the old man knowledge or the knowledge of good and evil.
So when you look at scripture from the view of God providing for humanity a Savior from their sin, it is all taken care of. But I still do not believe that was going to be enough for what the father was really after and that was for the believer to know Him. It was enough in the since God had worked out his plan before the foundation of the world to birth him own children but now he wanted his birthed one's to know him on a personal level if you will. He wanted his bonified offspring to know him in a the way a child should know a parent. Through a love relationship that had it's core 'doing' because of love and just 'being' because of who they are. Nothing would be based on works lest any man should boast.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9.
