Previous generations, have been summarized by us - we *also* will be summarized, by generations that come after us! (looking?)

Hi there,

So Solomon says at length "as it was, so shall it be" (in Ecclesiastes) and Christ Himself says "this generation shall not pass away, until all these things are fulfilled" (gospels, from memory) - what is it, that happens from generation to generation, if we both come to be and fulfil? The answer is that one generation summarizes the preceeding. Imagine Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden: did they dwell at length on how God had created them, what detail He had added where? No! They humbled themselves, that how ever God had done it, He had done it! This is a summary. Other generations, will have a like summary.

Will Jesus be unsummarized, by the generations that are to come? Will He be unsummarized by the Holy Spirit? "But new wine must be put into new wineskins, lest they be put in the old wineskins and the old wineskins burst" (gospels, from memory) This is the process by which the faith renews itself, before God. Not despite God, but even God, must take His place. There is a lesson here: don't just disregard the trials of those that have come before you, you in turn will want to be remembered in the best possible light - even if, every last detail cannot be recalled. This is a trial in and of itself, we must heed those that want us to forget, who find summarizing well "too hard".

It helps at this stage, to look at the Holy Spirit: does He summarize the passion of the Christ, without passion Himself? No! But the Passion for God in Christ grows in Him. Does the summary to come, make Him bitter? No, but the hope of all generations being as One, drives Him on. This is what it is to be caught up in a mystery, that both frees you spiritually and denies you, in the flesh. It is a process that the experienced know well, and seek diligently. Power comes with this, but we must be mindful not to be snared by power. Heart will make us strong, whatever generation we face, but if we summarize the heart, woe to us if we can't live that way.

"Offences must come, but woe to him by whom the offence comes" (gospels, from memory). The point of guarding the heart, against false summaries is that the Spirit can speak to us, no matter what generation we find ourselves in; the point in cherishing the blood of past messengers, is that the suffering of the Spirit can make us strong, as all generations have been strong. This is scripturally sound, but not explicitly a point of boasting - we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling (letters, from memory), lest we be over looked, by the saving grace of our time.

I hope this has been of some blessing to you.

God bless.
