I was a military brat for 18 years ....
I thank God every day that I am not on socialised medicine.
We hear horror stories about the VA in America. My wife is a retired RN. She worked the VA for 20 days in the operating theater, then demanded she be let out ....She still says that what they put our Vets through should be a crime.
I had five Manufacturers Representatives in Canada. Everyone of them had American Health Insurance policies. Thirty minutes across the border to get better care without long waiting lines.
I have to say ...MyGrandmother suffered an aneurthym in her brain. The best Doctors in Birmingham could not operate. They suggested one known Neuologist in North America. He looked at the case and approved the proceedure. He made a spot for her. She was flown with my Mom and her Dad to some remote region in Canada where this surgeon worked from. The hospital was the major employer in the town or village. No hotels ....they stayed with a family while the surgery took place. When the operation was completed ....the Doctor walked out of surgery, went past her family and disappeared. His assistant, learning to be a better brain surgeon sat down with Mom and GrandDad and explained ..."If he ever sits down with the family, you know it's no chance for the relative. He doesn't fair well with the family, so it's best that I fill you in with the success of this proceedure ..." Grandmom outlived my Grandfather and almost my Mom ...
To me, that is proof positive that Great Doctors can be found ....what you need is God, luck and the skills given to the surgeon ....
