I was born in seventy two and as a wee lad i do remember this giant cry about global cooling , talks of an ice age .
AND yes they were using this tatics IN ORDER to attain power and control over teh world .
Actually that's a myth. See my link about what climatologists were actually predicting. Even in the 1970s, most of them were predicting warming.

@Wrangler

And right on cue here is the lover of all pseudo-science, The Barbarian, has commented above.

Since you know more about this than me, Wrangler, I'll leave it to you, I have to get to sleep. Look forward to reading your response
The fun part, as always, is picking apart the logic of their arguments. One of their favorite is Appeal to Authority; they only want to acknowledge evidence in support of their position and anything else is not credible. (I must already have the Barbarian on ignore. LOL. But for this thread, maybe I'll be a sport about it. :-))

So, yes those daisy climate pseudo-scientists are telling us about climate change. What were real climate scientists predicting?

Look @Armour of God! An appeal to authority, "real" climate scientists. (Ignore that what they predicted was wrong nearly 98% of the time).

I'm no climatologist. But I do garden. And I notice that the hardiness zones have been moving north for decades.

One of my favorite observations made regarding alarmists is their schizophrenia on the relationship between weather and climate. Every record hot day is offered as more proof of AGW. What about record cold days? Even though record cold days double the number of record hot days since the alarmism began, they be like, "Weather is not the same as climate."

This post goes back to the modeling question. Let's stipulate that "the hardiness zones have been moving north for decades." How do you determine the proportion of causal agents? One of my presentation slides showed evidence of global warming on other planets, including Pluto. Given that there is no internal combustion engine on these planets, how does an alarmist explain this fact? They don't and just ignore it.

some were preaching warming , some were preaching a cooling .
These nimrods i refuse to heed . If this people wants to heed Govts and sciences of men
prepare to reap DELUSION and then later DESTRUCTION on JESUS day .
These sold out globalists , these money hungry elites , Sorry to have to tell ya , THEY DONT GIVE A RIP about you , me

you wanna have a good laugh and then a good cry .
GO look at their so called lists of all the things they claim global warming can do .
ITs a joke .
it would be like me saying any possible scenario known to man , and if ANY ONE of them even happens
they say SEEE we told you its global warming . people are truly , i was about to say stupied , but that is mean .
SO how about i just say they TOO TRUST ING . they trust in govt and their men like they be GOD himself .

But now they so blind they cannot even realize what i am about to say next .
Before i do , please allow me to tell you what one of their articles said .
Global warming , deadly , we have rivers drying up . We can now see into these caves that used to be underwater
and are finding remains of a civilization .
HEY NIMRODS , if this has not happend before , THEN I GUESS that society had GILLS and lived under water .
What a joke . well it would be if it were not so serious .
What , did we used to have g ills and live in underwater caves .
OR , OR HAS IT BEEN THIS DRY BEFORE . and the answer is , IT HAS BEEN this DRY BEFORE .
CLIMATE always changes and shifts . AINT nothing new under the sun .

Depends on who "they" are, I suppose. Show me what climatologist say. So far, as you see from my rather superficial search, climatologists have been pretty good at predicting what is going to happen.

they have that covered too . you should see the list of impossibly endless scenarios they came up with .
THEY LIE to us all wrangler . DONT ever heed them carbon gas , buffalo phart gonna end the world camp of global warming .
AS IF this has not happend before .
AND HOW DO I KNOW it has .
WHEN They
made the big huge ado about how certain rivers are dissapearing and drying up
THEIR Words were , we could see inside these caves and places that used to be underwater
BUT NOW DUE TO COWS PHARTING , lol , but now due to the dangerous global warming
We see where people actually lived in some of those caves .
DID YA CATCH THAT . they found evidence of humans having lived in these under water caves .
Now for the kicker . G UESS THEY HAD GILLS . OR HAS IT BEEN LIKE THIS BEFORE .

Show us that. I think someone was pulling your leg. Buffalo don't actually fart greenhouse gases. They do belch them, but there aren't enough buffalo in the world to matter much. Maybe there are enough cattle, but I haven't seen the numbers.

Yes, climate has fluctuated. The carbon content in the Earth's atmosphere has been high before, with the same results. We're just doing it faster than it usually goes.

From https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/_...uting-12-claims-made-by-climate-alarmists.pdf

Refuting 12 Claims Made by Climate Alarmists

Alarmist Claim #1: Antarctic Peninsula is shrinking

FACT: 2008 peer-reviewed paper in American Geophysical Union found “a doubling in snow accumulation in
the western Antarctic Peninsula since 1850.”

Alarmist Claim #2: Glaciers are melting throughout the world.

FACT: A UN Report in 2010 reported that “glaciers increasing despite climate change… glaciers in many areas of
the world are increasing.”

Alarmist Claim #3: The IPCC stated the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035. .

FACT: The IPCC got that unsubstantiated and false statistic from a World Wildlife Federation brochure. In
January 2010, Time magazine article, Himalayan Melting, How a Climate Panel Got it Wrong: “Glaciergate” is a
“black eye for the IPCC and the climate-science community as a whole.”

Alarmist Claim #4: Polar Bears are disappearing.

FACT: Director of Wildlife Research with the Arctic Government of Nunavut: “Of 13 populations of polar bears
in Canada, 11 are stable or increasing in number. They are not going extinct, or even appear to be affected at
present.”
FACT: In the 50’s and 60’s there were between 5,000 and 10,000 polar bears. Today there are between 15,000 and
25,000.

Alarmist Claim #5: May 2013, President Obama claimed the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.”

FACT: Nature reported “For the period [1998-2012] the observed trend of temperatures is … not significantly
different from zero and suggests a temporary hiatus in global warming.”
FACT: The Economist reported “over the past 15 years, air temperatures at the Earth’s surface have been flat …”

Alarmist Claim #6: 2014 was the warmest year in modern record by 0.02 degree.

FACT: Only a “38% chance 2014 was the warmest year on record.” Margin of error, which on average is 0.1 degree
Celsius, made “impossible to conclude 2014 was the warmest year” according to the Berkeley Earth Surface
Temperature (BEST) project stated,

Alarmist Claim #7: In 2000, Democrats started saying that the science is settled.

FACT: I started getting phone calls from scientists disagreeing so I made a speech on the floor showing how many
scientists disagreed.

Alarmist Claim #8: Global warming is causing more tornadoes.

FACT: A NOAA scientist rejected global warming link to tornados stating “no specific consensus or connection
between global warming and tornadic activity.”

Alarmist Claim #9: Global warming is causing hurricanes to increase in intensity and frequency.

FACT: Geophysical Research Letters found “since 2006 tropical cyclone energy has decreased dramatically” to the
lowest levels since the 1970s. Global frequency of tropical cyclones has reached a historic low.
Alarmist Claim #10: Global warming is leading to an increased number of droughts.

FACT: IPCC Fifth Assessment report, previous “conclusions regarding global increasing trend in drought since
the 1970s were probably overstated.”

Alarmist Claim #11: Global warming is causing sea levels to rise at a rapid pace.

FACT: Journal of Geophysical Research found “there has been no statistically significant acceleration in sea level
rise over the past 100 plus years.”

Alarmist Claim #12: 97% of scientists agree global warming is manmade.

FACT: WSJ found the 97% consensus to be predicated on “a handful of surveys and abstract-counting exercises
that have been contradicted by more reliable research.”

One of my favorite observations made regarding alarmists is their schizophrenia on the relationship between weather and climate. Every record hot day is offered as more proof of AGW. What about record cold days?

Extreme cold has decreased sharply. Since the 1990s, the frequency and severity of record-cold winter temperatures have dropped substantially.

Weather is not climate. So you'll still expect to see a record cold for some area or another for a short time, even if the average temperature is climing. This is why you should see what climatologists say, not alarmists or deniers.

This post goes back to the modeling question. Let's stipulate that "the hardiness zones have been moving north for decades." How do you determine the proportion of causal agents?

For one thing, you look at theories that have made predictions. In the late 1800s, scientists began to realize that more carbon in the atmosphere would mean warmer average temperatures. A few decades ago, a NASA scientist actually predicted the rate of increase as a consquence of increasing carbon. Both predictions have been confirmed.

One of my presentation slides showed evidence of global warming on other planets, including Pluto.
Given that there are no humans on Pluto, we can rule out anthropogenic carbon as a cause. Also it has a very, very thing atmosphere, so that wouldn't be a factor, either. However, Pluto has a very eccentric orbit, sometimes coming closer to the Sun than Neptune. It was closest to the Sun about 30 years ago, and since it takes about 248 years to orbit the Sun, it's not surprising that it's warmer than usual now.

How do deniers deal with this fact? Generally, they don't know about it, so it's not a challenge to their assumptions.

Nope. The AGW hypothesis violates Henry’s Law. What the facts of geological time show is CO2 rise follows temperature rise (by about 800 years.) Manmade global warming hysteria has cause and effect backwards.

From https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/_...uting-12-claims-made-by-climate-alarmists.pdf

Refuting 12 Claims Made by Climate Alarmists

Alarmist Claim #1: Antarctic Peninsula is shrinking
In the Southern Hemisphere summer of 2002, scientists monitoring daily satellite images of the Antarctic Peninsula watched in amazement as almost the entire Larsen B Ice Shelf splintered and collapsed in just over one month. They had never witnessed such a large area—3,250 square kilometers, or 1,250 square miles—disintegrate so rapidly.

So, how can the peninsula become smaller, and still have it showing more often? Turns out, the same reason for both. Warmer seas undercut the ice shelf and it collapsed. And warmer air holds more water and means more snow. Ironically, it doesn't show much in Antarctica:

Antarctica is considered a desert because it receives very little rain or snowfall. The small amount of snow that does fall does not melt but builds up over hundreds and thousands of years to form large, thick ice sheets.
Alarmist Claim #2: Glaciers are melting throughout the world.
It’s a startling fact that no one can afford to ignore that a staggering 90% of glaciers and ice fields worldwide are in retreat due to a rising surface and atmosphere temperature, an effect which is particularly bullying the Arctic region at this time. But rest assured, in fact be astounded to learn, that some glaciers are either holding a steady position, or, even more surprisingly, have been advancing at greater rates than even before climate change became noticeable.

Not surprisingly the exceptions are those glaciers in areas where precipitation has increased, meaning more snowfall.
Alarmist Claim #3: The IPCC stated the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035. .
Well, they are melting now. At a faster rate than other glaciers. Let's go to the IPCC site and see what it actually says about Himalyan glaciers:

Its total area will likely shrink from the present 500,000 to 100,000 km2 by the year 2035 (WWF, 2005).

Well, maybe not completely melted. But any melt counts, I guess.

Himalayan glaciers providing critical water to nearly two billion people are melting faster than ever before due to climate change, exposing communities to unpredictable and costly disasters, scientists warned Tuesday.

The glaciers disappeared 65 percent faster from 2011 to 2020 compared with the previous decade, according to a report by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)...Based on current emissions trajectories, the glaciers could lose up to 80 percent of their current volume by the end of the century, said the Nepal-based ICIMOD, an inter-governmental organization that also includes member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

Himalayan Glaciers Are Melting 65% Faster Than Just 10 Years Ago

Your alarm is apparently unwarranted.

Well, we have pretty good data since people started keeping track. Let's take a look...

Reality says deniers have it backwards. Looks like temperatures react a lot faster than you were told.

I have supreme confidence in our God and Christ Jesus my savior. God has sovereign authority over all His creation. God alone controls the weather, climate, and everything. He spoke it into being and its a little thing to control His creation. Nothing is impossible with God.

So, your contention is man causinG warming began in 1990?
If you look at the graph of average global temperatures, you'll see that the warming trend accelerated about that time.
1779311784417.png
So, it's not surprising. As you see, warming began nearly a century before that, and then accelerated in the 1980s.

Alarmist Claim #5: May 2013, President Obama claimed the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.”
See the graph of actual measured global temperatures. He had it right about the acceleration of warming, but I would say that some climatologists had anticipated it earlier than that. All this data is available on scientific databases, BTW.

LOL. It’s so funny how you ignore the facts presented.

Denial isn't fact. The information I showed you are facts. This stuff isn't hard to look up. A dose of skepticism is healthy for you. Remember, when someone tells you something you really, really want to be true, that's when you should be most wary. Because that's when you are easiest to fool. That's when all of us are easiest to fool. I'm no different; that's why I fact check especially carefully when I see a claim that I would like to be true.

The climatologist reports I see predicted an increase in severity, not frequency. Can you show us a consensus on frequency by climatologists?
FACT: Geophysical Research Letters found “since 2006 tropical cyclone energy has decreased dramatically” to thelowest levels since the 1970s. Global frequency of tropical cyclones has reached a historic low.
High-quality satellite-based data shows an increase in the number of Category 5 storms. Of the 217 Cat 5s globally during the 44-year period 1982 to 2025, 59% occurred in the last half of the period (Fig. 1), and there has been an increase in the number of Cat 5s since accurate global satellite data became available in 1982 (and technically, this is statistically significant at better than the 1% level – meaning that this is a real trend and not random variability). And if we look at the strongest tropical cyclones by ocean basin since 1980 (Fig. 2), the records for nine out of 11 of these ocean basins were set in the last half of the 46-year period ending in 2025.

It's why property insurance companies are pulling out of gulf coast states.
Homeowners in Gulf Coast states are facing a tightening home insurance market marked by soaring premiums, rising foreclosures, and growing coverage gaps, according to new findings from the Insurance Fairness Project.

The data points to a worsening crisis in Louisiana, Florida, Texas, and Georgia – regions frequently impacted by hurricanes and other extreme weather events.

A report from the Consumer Federation of America shows significant premium increases between 2021 and 2024: 34% in Louisiana, 29% in Florida, 24% in Texas, 20% in Georgia, and 7% in Alabama.

Between 2021 and 2024, homeowners insurance premiums across the US rose by an average of 24%, according to national data compiled by the Consumer Federation of America.

The total financial impact on American households amounts to approximately $21 billion in additional insurance costs during that period, highlighting that the affordability issue extends beyond the Gulf Coast, though it is more acute there.
