The English will give one very good over all picture of most things but if you are paying attention and don't just read our English way of scanning quickly over a verse for its general meaning,and want to really dig for the truth of a statement or an idea you must go back to the original language.There are many words in the Hebrew and Greek that there is no English Word for so the translators were forced to use a Word closet to its meaning.I often use the word "mark" (as in mark the spot) for an example in the original language's there was 19 different Words each with a slightly different meaning used for this word. All of these different words are translated as the single word "mark" in the English. This suffices o.k. in most places but there are other places that it paints a much clearer picture of what going on. Example: in Ruth we have the following verse Rth 3:4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.What does this mean if we look at the word Mark in the Hebrew we see it is.. "yada" it means to know ..to learn, and can even mean to know in a carnal way `to knowa) (Qal)1) to knowa) to know, learn to know
to perceivec) to perceive and see, find out and discernd) to discriminate, distinguishe) to know by experiencef) to recognise, admit, acknowledge, confessg) to consider2) to know, be acquainted with3) to know (a person carnally)(The marriage rite consisted of the man placing his garment over the woman. Though Ruth was a Moabitess, Boaz would instruct her as to what she should do.) this can give us a much clearer picture of Whats going on here So just as the verse in the previous post as Vindicated points out taking words back to the original can teach you a lot about Gods Word More often than Not it is the where to find the answer to verse's that seem on the surface to contradict each other.

I still disagree: 4"It shall be when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies, and you shall go and uncover his feet and lie down; then he will tell you what you shall do." According to BibleGateway.com, there are around 20 other English translations on that website. (And I'm sure there are even more English translations out there).I think you guys are casting doubt where it frankly doesn't belong or exist.

(And we know this because of how Jesus dealt with the Pharisees). 5Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7"Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8"The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit." 9Nicodemus said to Him, "How can these things be?" 10Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? John 3:5-10The problems in the church today have to do with hard-heartedness towards God and His spirit. True, but are you willing to say that Apologetics is un-important? You have an apologetics thread, and you deal with people (especially atheists) who frankly need apologetics to come to God.Are you willing to damn all these people to hell (like Lunar and Adrenaline) because this is a "bible study only" website? I hope not.I don't think reading God's word is as difficult as understanding the intricacies of quantum mechanics, and sometimes I think you push this idea (whether you mean to or not). I think we know what the bible says, in English. If one translation happens to be incorrect, I can always go to one of the other 19 English translations and read the same verse to see the difference.
