I don't think God has given up on me.
No, doesn’t give up on anyone, until they give up on him….it’s good you haven’t done that.
This may be my human inability to understand God's plan talking, but it feels like I'm supposed to figure something out or do something, some prayer or going to church more or something which even in my head sounds irrational but after all this time it seems to be the only remaining option.
Well, the option I would take is a Bible study…not just Bible reading, but a decent dig into the Scriptures to see what they are telling all of us….it is God’s instruction manual after all. Without the Bible we would know nothing about God or his purpose in creating us.
In his word he tells why he put us humans here on this lovingly prepared earth, and he told us what he wanted us to do here…..can you tell me what you think that was?
I've tried, hard to get close to God in the past 3 years
It has not been constant and at times I've seriously considered giving up
If you are not getting answers then perhaps you are not asking the right people…?
But I prayed and read the Bible every day
for months and still,nothing
I feel like I need to find God,but it's like hea hiding and won't tell me why or if he was ever there to begin with.
We have the assurance that if we seek God, we will find him, but we have to “keep on seeking” and not give up.
When you read the Bible, do you really understand what you are reading?
When you pray, are you repeating words that are not your own heartfelt expressions?
If you look at the Lord’s Prayer in Matt 6:9-13, what do the words just before it tell you?
Jesus said….(Vs 6-9)
“But when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret. Then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you. 7 When praying, do not say the same things over and over again as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. 8 So do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need even before you ask him.
9 “You must pray, then, this way:”….
What do you notice there? Jesus wasn’t giving us a prayer to repeat endlessly…he was giving us a model for our own prayers, so that we would know what to pray for in order of priority. He said “pray this way”….NOT “pray this prayer“.
Prayer is not something that should come from our head by rote, but from our heart like a conversation with our best friend. Have you told him how you feel and how much you would like to get to know him? He wants to get to know you….and the very fact that this is your own initiative, without your parents encouragement, speaks volumes about you.
Also my parents both claim to be religious but aren't people I would ever talk about religion with because my father doesn't communicate with God in any way and my mother is misinformed by the internet
The internet can be a blessing or a curse depending on who you listen to…..there are good influences and bad ones….it’s a bit of a jungle, but since we live in a world ruled by the devil (1 John 5:19) we have to ask God to guide our hearts so that his truth will look like a brilliant diamond and not just a pile of broken glass.
Sites like this can provide information and even though you are young, you can read what people say and ask God to direct you to HIS truth….the one contained in his word.
The story it tells is not overly complicated, so if you break it down to its basic parts, we can see what God planned for us in the beginning….what went wrong, and who orchestrated that….then see what God did to give us back what we lost….we can then see why Jesus came as our Redeemer….someone who came to die, so that we can live. He died instead of us. But how come we still die, you might ask?
This is where we need the Bible to answer those questions. I bet you have a bunch of them….I know I did at your age, but the church I was raised in was not big on answers, just on performance.
God does not want mindless performers…he wants those in his Kingdom who want to follow his instructions, as he always has our best interests at heart. We have to get to know him, (John 17:3) and the more we know him (not just about him)….the more we will love and respect him for who he is….what he has done…..and what he promises to do in the future….
What has this world got to offer anyone? God has something so much better in store. (Rev 21:2-4)
“Ask and you will receive”….be patient and start digging. Ask questions and see how the answers sit with you….
